Description
The At-Large New gTLDs Working Group closed in Dec 2017 and merged with the Consolidated Policy Working Group (CPWG).
In February 2018, Jonathan Zuck was appointed Chair of the ANGWG, replacing Evan Leibovitch.
History
The At-Large New gTLDs Working Group (ANGWG) restarted at ICANN42 in Dakar. The WG performed the following work:
- Objection Process: At-Large is charged with developing a method to accept, filter and submit community-based objections to TLD proposals (similar to what the GAC will have)
- Applicant support issues: With the JAS report complete, that group will be winding down but it will be necessary for At-Large to monitor its acceptance and implementation (to the extent that it is accepted and implemented)
- Outreach evaluation & recommendation: Review and remediation of poor results in applications for new gTLDs and applications for support from developing economies
- At-Large New gTLD Rollout Issues Workspace: As the gTLD process unfolds, At-Large will observe the rollout and may develop further advice
During ICANN42, Avria Doria was appointed by the ALAC as Chair of the ANGWG, and Evan Leibovitch as liaison to the WG.
The WG operates based upon the GNSO Working Guidelines, produced with substantial At-Large representation. Please refer to the guidelines here and here. Please note these are guidelines, and the ANGWG will update them to their specific needs over time.
On 1 November 2007 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), the ICANN Board approved the GNSO New gTLDs Policy. This means ICANN Staff now as the responsibility to propose, for public comment and review, the practical implementation of the process by which new GTLDs will be added to the root zone.
As a result, the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) created the ANGWG to follow developments.
