Mario Aleman:Welcome to the At-Large Social Media Working Group Call Tuesday, 24 February 2017 at 14:00 UTC

  Mario Aleman:Agenda:

Adebunmi Akinbo:Hi. Adebunmi Adeola Akinbo for the transcript.

  Mario Aleman:Welcome everyone, Welcome Adebunmi

  Ariel Liang:FYI - Sam's twitter:

John Laprise:Dev: Adebunmi has a question

  Adebunmi Akinbo:An addendum.

Glenn McKnight:In the case of  DIPLO Geneva Internet Platform we create very short summaries of a session. These get inserted in the monthly newsletter

Glenn McKnight:The content is more comphrehesive  and summarizes the  meeting,  Fact based

Adebunmi Akinbo:@Laprise: More of a reponse or an addendum.

Dev Anand Teelucksingh:thanks, see it - AC is giving Adobe Connect is acting up for me  - s

Dev Anand Teelucksingh:i sent that 90 seconds ago :-(

Glenn McKnight:People using  their  cell phones  tend to be out of focus.  My photos are professional in my tweets

Glenn McKnight:Because i use expensive equipment

Glenn McKnight:You need to decide your  twitter approach

Glenn McKnight:Every one has their own style

John Laprise:Yes. Samantha usually has an official role and different constraints.

Glenn McKnight:We have had  a list of volunteers  to perform  social media at the events.  Ariel has created a spreadsheet but I dont  think many volunteers follow through

Glenn McKnight:Difference of  paid vs volunteers

Adebunmi Akinbo:I use a professional phone that does not loose focus.

Adebunmi Akinbo:It depends on what you use and how you have developed yourself.

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):humorous can backfire

Glenn McKnight:@aa  in most cases the phones of people with cell phones are not high quality and not suitable for print.  Remember the photos should have a life afte the tweet.  The vanity of the  speaker is always a good way to to distribute

Glenn McKnight:Comedy is not a good idea

  Adebunmi Akinbo:@Glenn: True.

Glenn McKnight:It doesn't  cross cultures.  ie. Bob Hope'   The chinese are revolting  quote

Ariel Liang:thanks Sam for that insight

Glenn McKnight:Suggestion  we have a  webinar on how  to do effective tweets  for the volunteers

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):good idea Glenn

Adebunmi Akinbo:We can easily develop a toolkit and place it somewhere on our page for volunteers

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):yes  indeed

Glenn McKnight:I attend the  NTEN  session on Technology and Non profits and I shared  very good collaborative notes on tools and techniques on social media

  Glenn McKnight:

Glenn McKnight:We could   extract  information for a Social Media  Primer

  Ariel Liang:thanks Sam

Glenn McKnight:The  rub is that we are dealing with volunteers  who have other priorities

Adebunmi Akinbo:Ariel should lead the process for that primer before we loose sight of it.

Glenn McKnight:AA  i dont think she has time

Glenn McKnight:This committee needs to take responsibility

Adebunmi Akinbo:Okay.  I have your back.

Glenn McKnight:She has done lots of work on this commitee  but we need to recruit many new faces to make it work

Ariel Liang:@Glenn - happy to help though but would of course appreciate others get involved and share expertise

Adebunmi Akinbo:Easy with the coming meeting.

Adebunmi Akinbo:Next Gemeration Twitters to support.

  John Laprise:2 questions

Glenn McKnight:AA    We have used Slack and Spreadsheets for volunteers but  we have a lack of follow through

Glenn McKnight:Yes  Net Gen, Newcomers and  Fellows  should be incorporated into this committee

Mario Aleman:I agree on that, Glenn!

Adebunmi Akinbo:We should be looking at Instagram. I am a Social Media Expert and love the integration that i can tweet with my instgram.

Glenn McKnight:AA  we did an event and focused only on FACEBOOK  ads etc to promote the event.  very good results

Adebunmi Akinbo:Volunteers should learn to understand the issue and the personality - Samantha

Glenn McKnight:We used it effectively to keep people informed and seed information

Glenn McKnight:Olivier  also   Tweet  meetups are good

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):wise words as ever Sam...

  John Laprise:+1 Samantha

Glenn McKnight:More  reason to have a  capacity building session webinar

  Glenn McKnight:Alll the above  Olivier

Adebunmi Akinbo:If we are to achieve the use of Social Media for expanding and outreach, we need to understand that the gadget matters, the engagement platform is key and the content must hit home.

John Laprise:socialmedia polls are useless, largely

  Adebunmi Akinbo:@Laprise: i depends.

  Adebunmi Akinbo:it depends.

John Laprise:No Olivier. convenience sample, unrepresentative

Adebunmi Akinbo:It really depends on the audience or target.

John Laprise:Unless your sample frame is specifically social media participants, it isn't useful or representative.

Glenn McKnight:Dev  we are running  late....

  Adebunmi Akinbo:Right. Right.

Glenn McKnight:We need to  deal with the next issue

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):thanks Sam

Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond:Thanks Samantha! Great tips

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):night Sam

  Adebunmi Akinbo:Thanks Sam.

Glenn McKnight:Action Item  suggestion.   We need to explore the idea of  an inservice  webinar on effective tweeting

  Adebunmi Akinbo:Support @Glenn

Glenn McKnight:Dev  look at my suggestion

Ariel Liang:You can also view the recommendation here:

  Ariel Liang:(page 47-48)

John Laprise:Glenn can you hear us?

  Glenn McKnight:tried

  Glenn McKnight:forget it

Glenn McKnight:damn  Adobe  acting up again

Glenn McKnight:this  is my third  meeting  that  its' not picking up my mic

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):it's just part of the Communication Toolkit

Glenn McKnight:Adobe is really acting up again

Glenn McKnight:Dev: My point  is that  the review  really lacked rigour in failing to interview this committee and it make eronous  assumptions.

Glenn McKnight:Due to audio issues  the  next topic on  Copyright

Glenn McKnight:[2/23/2017 9:40:55 PM] Glenn McKnight: Tomorrow's  call  on Creative Commons vs  All rights  Reserved[2/23/2017 9:40:56 PM] Glenn McKnight:  9:41:55 PM] Glenn McKnight: So, what exactly is photo copyright?   Glenn #2:We need to divide the people with different talents

Adebunmi Akinbo:Makes good use of space and character.

Adebunmi Akinbo:@Gleen: On point. Same with Laprise.

  Glenn #2:Great John

Adebunmi Akinbo:Our followership is our community that we need to keep in constant touch.

Glenn #2:We don't  dovetail with other groups  ie. Diplo, ISOC, Internet Governance Facebook group etc

  John Laprise:

  Adebunmi Akinbo:Tweetdeck!

John Laprise:I can handle that Glenn

Ariel Liang:yes - actually I have been using that methodology too, but just want to figure out a way to retweet more effectively and timely from At-Large members
