The Technical Issues Working Group is the result of a merger between the working groups on DNS Security Issues and IPv6 Issues. The decision to merge and rename the two working groups was taken during the ICANN meeting in Seoul in October 2009.
The DNS Security Issues WG was one of the five working groups created in advance of the At-Large Summit in Mexico City in March 2009. It was originally entitled "Working Group on DNS Security Issue within ICANN's Remit". The working group on IPv6 issues, on the other hand, has been in existence since 2007.
