Seth Greene: NARALO CHAT: 08 AUGUST 2011
Evan Leibovitch: hi all
Garth Bruen: Guten Tag
Seth Greene: Let me look into that. Sorry, Beau.
Eduardo Diaz: hOLA.
Seth Greene: Link to AIs (not working for some): https://community.icann.org/display/NARALO/NARALO+18.07.2011+Action+Items
Seth Greene: AIs also in above pod.
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: it's the darned OWA links.
Matt Ashtiani: i just checked and none of them are owa
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: Are you sure? In the Wiki it doesn't work
Seth Greene: At-Large policy dev page: https://community.icann.org/display/alacpolicydev/At-Large+Policy+Development+Page
Matt Ashtiani: @OCL: yes
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: and they work with you Matt because you're logged in.
Matt Ashtiani: strange, i am clicking on the links and the appear to be working
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: we don't have logins into the ICANN intranet
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: so when we're sent there, there's a hiccup
Seth Greene: ICANN public comments page: http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/
Seth Greene: Sorry, the links are working for me, albeit slowly. I will bring this up with IT Support.
Joly MacFie: http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/board-gac-jwg-final-report-07jul11-en.htm
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: The ALAC submitted a statement
Joly MacFie: Here's the cluse:
Joly MacFie: If the Board only acknowledges GAC advice when disagreeing, seeking clarification or revision to GAC advice, it is not possible for the GAC to know what the Board intends to do with all advice received. For example, ICANN/IANA has not been referencing the 2005 GAC Principles and Guidelines for the Delegation and Administration of Country Code Top Level Domains (2005) but rather an earlier version of the document. How can this circumstance be avoided in the future? Some form of register, accessible on a public web-site, could be useful. For example, the SSAC website (see http://www.icann.org/en/committees/security/ssac-documents.htm) offers a comprehensive and up-to-date list of all SSAC "reports and advisories" since 2001. The GAC has no similar register to refer to.
Olivier Crepin-Leblond: https://community.icann.org/display/alacpolicydev/ALAC+Comments+to+NTIA+to+FNOI+re+IANA
Evan Leibovitch: FWIW, I abstained on the ALAC vote to approve it on the FNOI. I wasn't totally comfortable with it.
Gordon Chillcott: I rather like that idea - makes it easier to talk to our ALS's
Eduardo Diaz: I like the idea of activating a wiki so people can put a list of question to be put forward in the survey. By the way, how much time do we have to put this together?
Alan Greenberg: Money needs to be spent within fiscal year
Darlene: We need to be finished by June 30, 2012
Joly MacFie: ok
Eric Brunner-Williams: @ocl, thanks for the link to the 2nd alac fnoi comment.
Gordon Chillcott: I'd like to come into the "Survery Gang"
Joly MacFie: I think new tld's is going to be the popular topic
Joly MacFie: particularly geo community tlds and brands taking over generics
Beau Brendler: Darlene, would you be able to coordinate and list who are in the two groups -- survey group and vid group -- and work w/staff to set up mailing list (even though there is a wiki)
Joly MacFie: Eduardo's saying it was a hijack
Garth Bruen: Other ccTLDs have been "victimized" in similar ways and it's pushed off as non-ICANN business
Eric Brunner-Williams: there is an iana issue
Garth Bruen: .LA - Laos is suing to get their ccTLD back
Eric Brunner-Williams: dates are important, before or after david conrad departed the iana vice presidency
Eric Brunner-Williams: neuie .nu is another one
Garth Bruen: .MD - Moldova is being used by a co. in New Jersey to market "Medica Professional" sites
Eric Brunner-Williams: there is the whole repurposed cctlds
Garth Bruen: Yes, .NU is run from Massachusetts
Eric Brunner-Williams: we would be criticising the "principle of ... something" from chris despain
Eric Brunner-Williams: i'll think of it ..
Garth Bruen: Also, the supposedly defunct .GB is still in use and being bought privately
Eric Brunner-Williams: do we get to go factfinding when its starts snowing???
Eric Brunner-Williams: ok
Joly MacFie: I think Danny Younger is interested in this
Joly MacFie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj1olVmZseE
Joly MacFie: there was also a prediction of 1500 applications
Joly MacFie: and that there would be no second round for at least 3 years
