Satish Babu has been a programmer, a Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) advocate, an early user of the Internet & a proponent of its open nature, and a Development Professional for over 30 years. He is based out of Kerala, India.

He is active in multiple technical and technology communities including ICANN, IEEE, Internet Society, and the Computer Society of India (CSI). He is a Fellow and past President (2012-13) of CSI, India's national society  founded in 1965. CSI, with over 105,000 members across India, became an ICANN ALS while he was its President. He is the founder-Chair of ISOC-Trivandrum Chapter, and the founding Director of the International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), an academic/research institution of the Government of Kerala, India.

Satish worked about grassroots communities and NGOs--particularly with small-scale/traditional fisher communities--during 1984-1999, and later on during 2004-2007 in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, where he was involved in the rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction phases as part of the civil society response.

Satish is the Co-founder and Board Director of InApp Information Technologies, an IT Services company with offices in US and Japan, with its development centre in Trivandrum, India.

Satish is part of the10-member apex IEEE Humanitarian Activities Committee (2017,2018, 2019), and Member & Secretary of Internet Society's Chapters Advisory Council Steering Committee (ChAC SC) elected representing the Asia-Pacific Region (2018).

Satish is a co-founder and key organizer of the India School of Internet Governance (inSIG), which has just finished its seventh edition in 2022. 

He was elected as Chair of the Asia-Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG) in 2019. Satish is also a member of the DotAsia Board of Directors from 2018.
