You are invited to participate the second APRALO Policy Forum Fireside Chat: "Let's Talk About Transfer Policy" on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at 07:00 UTC for 60 minutes, where Jonathan Zuck, ALAC Vice Chair for Policy and Co-Chair of the At-Large Consolidated Policy Work Group (CPWG), will be chatting with his guest, Steinar Grøtterød, Member of the GNSO Transfer Policy Review Policy Development Process Working Group (TPR PDP WG) selected by the ALAC.

In conjunction with this PDP WG releasing its Initial Report Phase 1a for public comment, we invite you, especially if you are a domain name registrant, to join Jonathan and Steinar in an informal conversation to understand a little about:

  • the existing ICANN Transfer Policy around transfers of domain name registrations from one registrar to another registrar;
  • how enforcement of the 2018 General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) has impacted that ICANN Transfer Policy;
  • the risks for registrants and/or individual end-users and associated issues arising thereafter;
  • the issues identified under Phase 1a of this policy development process, as and where they relate to registrants and individual end-users; and
  • the proposed recommendations developed by the PDP WG to remedy those issues.

Do you have questions and/or points of view regarding inter-registrar transfers of domain name registrations? Come along and share them with us on Wednesday 29 June 2022 at 07:00 UTC.

Don't forget to pre-register your participation! And if you have any, please let us have your questions on this topic by posting them as comments to this wiki page below; or if you prefer, submit them by emailing staff at staff@atlarge.icann.org

Participants' Post-Event Comments

"Although slightly technical, the third fireside chat on transfer policy was extremely valuable for me- as a domain owner and a policy enthusiast. In the talk, discussions on the operational and transfer hurdles were discussed, inline with how the transfer policy has been struggling to be updated inline with the GDPR. It was a session which made me realize how everything is intertwined with each other in a policy. It would be great if we could also make some pointers and summary from each fireside chat and distribute it amongst our peers. Shoutout to Jonathan Zuck and Steinar Grøtterød for trying to simplify things for non technical folks."  ~ Samik Kharel
