Abdulkarim obtained his First degree in Electrical Engineering, master’s and PhD Degrees in Telecommunications from the University of York, the UK in 2008, 2010 and 2015 respectively. He currently teaches and carries out academic research at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria where he is a Senior Lecturer in Wireless Telecommunications and Telecommunications Policies. He is also a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of York, UK. His research interest includes but not limited to Internet Governance, Internet Protocol, Cognitive Radio, Spectrum Pricing, Propagation Models and Cost-Effective Telecommunication Development. He has published over 50 scientific papers in these fields in reputable journals and conferences around the world.  He is also currently a holder of the prestigious Rutherford Commonwealth Fellowship carrying out a Post-doctoral researcher at the University of York, UK where is working on cost Effective Telecommunication/Broadband Deployment for Africa. He has been representing Nigeria and the Internet Society at various ITU meetings, events and study groups meetings since 2015. He is currently (2017-2021) the ITU-D Vice-Chairman (Africa) for the Telecommunication Development Advisory Group (TDAG) and Co-Chair for the AFRINIC policy Development working group (2019-2020). He is also currently the Vice-Rapporteur for the ITU-D study question 5/2 (2018-2022) and Co-Chair for the AFRINIC Policy Development Working Group (PDWG). He has attended all ICANN meetings from ICANN 61 to date, AFRINIC meeting, RIPE meetings and WSIS forum among others. He is a member of the Root Server System Advisory Committee’s (RSSAC) caucus. He is a Co-Chair for the AFRALO hot topics working group among others. Abdulkarim has extensive linkages with the technical/Academic community among other stakeholder communities within and outside Africa. He enjoys travelling and has visited over 45 countries across the globe.
