On 31 Jul 2023, the Chair of the ICANN Board of Directors, Tripti Sinha, posted a blog on the ICANN Board's acceptance of an Implementation Plan for the Next Round of New generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), suggesting that, bar any unexpected delays, the next application round for New gTLDs is targeted for Apr 2026.

You are invited to participate in the second Webinar of an ongoing series on the New generic Top-Level Domains (New gTLDs) Program, organized by the APRALO Policy Forum. In anticipation the launch of the next round of applications for New gTLDs, this webinar is aimed at facilitating understanding around the New gTLD Program from the At-Large perspective, including any remaining policy-related processes and implementation work to be undertaken from now up to the target launch date of Apr 2026. This follows from the Webinar series pilot of APRALO Policy Forum Webinar #1: Next Round of New gTLDs: An Overview.

Join Justine Chew, ALAC Liaison to the GNSO and former At-Large Liaison for Subsequent Procedures, for Webinar #2 on the Next Round of New gTLDs: A Primer on Applicant Support (Part 1) on Thursday 23 November 2023 at 06:00 UTC for 75 minutes, where participants can expect to gain:

  • an overview of:
    • the Applicant Support Program for the 2012 Round of the New gTLD Program;
    • the policy recommendations of the Subsequent Procedures PDP Working Group (SubPro PDP WG) in 2016-2021;
    • the implementation work by the Subsequent Procedures Implementation Review Team (SubPro IRT) leading up to the launch of the Next Round;
    • an understanding of the 'gaps', i.e. what work remains in terms of policy versus implementation;
  • a preliminary discussion / gathering of input for a plan to amplify communication about the Next Round and the Applicant Support Program;
  • an open-mic opportunity to seek clarification and/or raise issues for addressing (to the extent possible); and
  • an opportunity to input on agenda building for this Webinar series.

Speaker Profile

Justine Chew currently serves as the ALAC Liaison to the GNSO where she provides input of the ALAC and At-Large in matters of interest overseen by the GNSO Council.  From 2016-2021, she was an active member of the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG, where she also served as the At-Large liaison from 2018-2021.  In that capacity, Justine led a small team that drove the CPWG's consensus-building efforts which produced ALAC statements, as well as ALAC Advice to the ICANN Board, in respect of Subsequent Procedures, which led to her being a panelist on several At-Large Policy Sessions related to Subsequent Procedures in recent ICANN Public Meetings. Justine is also the ALAC Member re-selected by the ICANN Nominating Committee to represent the AAPAC Region for 2023-2025, a role she was first selected to hold in 2019-2021. She was recently named as ALAC Vice-Chair for 2023-2024, and retains her role as Chair, APRALO Policy Forum.  Contact Justine for a chat
