On 31 Jul 2023, the Chair of the ICANN Board of Directors, Tripti Sinha, posted a blog on the ICANN Board's acceptance of an Implementation Plan for the Next Round of New generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), suggesting that, bar any unexpected delays, the next application round for New gTLDs is targeted for Apr 2026.

You are invited to participate in a webinar series to be organized by the APRALO Policy Forum to provide background information on the New gTLD Program and to facilitate understanding around the Next Round of New generic Top-Level Domains from the At-Large perspective, and including any remaining policy-related processes and implementation work to be undertaken from now up to the target launch date of Apr 2026.

Join Justine Chew, ALAC Liaison to the GNSO and former At-Large Liaison for Subsequent Procedures, for Webinar #1 on the Next Round of New gTLDs: An Overview on Thursday 7 September 2023 at 06:00 UTC for 75 minutes, where participants can expect to gain:

  • an overview of:
    • the New gTLD Program;
    • the policy development work completed by the Subsequent Procedures PDP Working Group (SubPro PDP WG) in 2016-2021;
    • the implementation work by the Subsequent Procedures Implementation Review Team (SubPro IRT) leading up to the launch of the Next Round;
    • the different roles held by various parts of the ICANN Community in relation to the SubPro PDP and SubPro IRT;
  • an understanding of what work remains in terms of policy versus implementation;
  • an open-mic opportunity to seek clarification and/or raise issues for addressing (to the extent possible); and
  • an opportunity to input on agenda building for this Webinar series.

Speaker Profile

Justine Chew currently serves as the ALAC Liaison to the GNSO where she provides input of the ALAC and At-Large in matters of interest overseen by the GNSO Council.  From 2016-2021, she was an active member of the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG, where she also served as the At-Large liaison from 2018-2021.  In that capacity, Justine led a small team that drove the CPWG's consensus-building efforts which produced ALAC statements, as well as ALAC Advice to the ICANN Board, in respect of Subsequent Procedures, which led to her being a panelist on several At-Large Policy Sessions related to Subsequent Procedures in recent ICANN Public Meetings. Justine is a former ALAC Member selected by the ICANN Nominating Committee to represent the APAC Region in 2019-2021.
