Communication and Collaboration: How to Facilitate the Most Effective Meetings and Work Practices

 

How can we:

 

  • Conduct effective calls
  • Conduct effective F2F meetings
  • Get things done efficiently and effectively
  • Manage differences of opinion and conflict effectively
  • Communicate well with each other
  • Give each other effective feedback and do it well
  • Make the best decisions

 

  • Discuss the above in small groups of 4 (30 mins)
  • Report out to wider group (30 mins)
  • Agree upon a list of approx 8-10 items/ground rules for ALAC / At Large (30 mins).

 

 Discuss as a whole group how we can hold each other accountable (15 mins).

Each person to reflect upon (10 mins) and then share with the group (5 mins each):

 

  1. One personal strength that they bring to the ALAC e.g. great listening, creativity, collaborating, handling conflict.
  2. One technical skill that they bring to the ALAC 
  3. One personal area of development that they’d like to work on within the context of the ALAC
  4. One technical skill that they’d like to improve on within the context of the ALAC
  5. What support do they need from ALAC colleagues for their development areas?

 

 

Record on flipchart and collate key themes of strengths/areas for development.

 

One person to circulate.

 

  • Provides the ALAC with clarity on how each individuals’ strengths and styles that contribute towards the success of the ALAC.  Identification of areas of need and ways in which we can support skill development.
  • Builds trust and openness.
  • Builds collaboration and support (point 5).
  • NB focus on skill and behavioural elements separately to avoid everyone resorting to skill.
