The BC is sending members Gabriela (Gabi) Szlak (Argentina) and Mark Datysgeld (Brazil) to ICANN62 using CROP funds for the purposes of outreach and engagement. Gabi and Mark are working with Andrew Mack (Outreach Chair) on proposal to look at how the BC might build long term participation in the BC for members and potential members from the Global South, starting with a focus in the LAC region. They have been discussing this proposal for a while, in part, using their own personal experiences at ICANN and the challenges they have faced. Part of this proposal builds on the previous work conducted with the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce leaders during ICANN61 San Juan, which was led by Andrew Mack and made possible thanks to CROP funding. (Note: the BC recognizes that while Puerto Rico is physically located within ICANN's North American Region, its geographic proximity to ICANN's LAC region provided these members the opportunity to start this project).

The eCommerce Institute, the organization Gabi represents at ICANN - BC - has strong bonds with local organizations in Panamá (for a recent example, see http://www.ecommerceday.com.pa/2017/). Also, this event (eCommerce Day Panamá) will be held again in October 2018 as part of "eCommerce Day Tour" that eCommerce Institute organizes each year in 12 countries of the region together with local partners (for more info http://www.ecommerceday.org/). Gabi believes that participation in Panamá ICANN Policy Forum will be useful to increase awareness of what the BC is doing and enhance the chances for engagement and participation from local companies.

Participation in ICANN62 will also provide Gabi, Mark, and Andrew the opportunity to present any deliverables in-person and to conduct interviews in person in the Panamá that will be part of the research they plan to do. The end goal is to develop policies and practices that will help the BC become more diverse and globally representative, with long term, active and sustainable participation from business representatives from around the world.
