QITCOM is managed by fischerAppelt, Qatar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies, Qatar

9) Purpose and Goals:

Participation in QITCOM 2014 will enable APRALO representatives to meet with a cross-section of the Internet user community in Qatar as well as in the Middle Eastern region. Through our participation, we will be able to re-engage with local communities on aspects such as  the Internet Governance ecosystem, ICANN & its models, and innovative opportunities of associating with ICANN, so as to stimulate interest from the local community.

In 2014, QITCOM will once again connect businesses, innovators, communities and industry leaders to consumers, entrepreneurs, students, and end-users through ICTs.

The goal of At-Large participation is outreach and promotion of the multistakeholder model of ICANN within Middle East region; to promote new ALSs in Asia Pacific region; and to enhance the engagement of existing ALSs from the region with ICANN activities.
10) Proposed Outcomes:
  • Sharing of practices of involvement of civil society in Internet governance issues, experience related to establishment of local Internet governance forum. 
  • Exploring possibilities for increasing ICT literacy among rural areas, particularly for low-resource users and community users; and use of community Internet centres as in the case of India
  • Discussing problems related security of use of the Internet, including cross-boarder security threats on the ccTLD level
  • Enhancing digital inclusion, particularly for the differently-abled as in the example of Armenia
  • Taking the message of ICANN's multistakeholder model to the Middle East, to stimulate interest amongst potential ALSes and to revitalize dormant ALSes in the region
  • Adopting steps to recruit new ALSes by networking
