At-Large / Registrars Meeting

Time: 1500 - 1600
Location: 300
Author: Davek, JS, Beau, Evan, Gareth, CAS

ALAC/Registrars
Having attended the very confrontational session in Mexico City, I found this a refreshing change. There seemed to be much more willingness on the part of the registrars to engage the ALAC in regular dialog. They noted our concerns with compliance and it was generally agreed that the very real problems were mainly caused by a relatively small number of bad actors. This in no way means that our problems are over, but in general a positive sign. We must not, however, stop pushing for more compliance efforts on the part of ICANN.

Affirmation of Commitments - Promoting Competition, Consumer Trust and Consumer Choice: What does it mean for building a Consumer Agenda in ICANN?

Time: 1600 - 1730
Location: 300
Author: Davek, Gareth, Beau, Evan, FB

Didier Kasole:
I can summurase in on french word "al'acoute du comsomateur". Icann try to
brigde the wide gap between the complitly international and the complitely
national.
The registrant can be in country and the registrant in another country, so
why law will apply in case of dispute.

Developing a consumer agenda

Unlike the Nairobi meeting which focused more on the formation of the proposed consumer constituency, this was a broader based look at the role of the consumer and its relationship to ICANN. How do you embed the public interest in ICANN processes?

It was pointed out that the AOC has a lot to say about consumer issues. Consumer concerns are more than about registrants and buying a domain.
