One-Week Extension to the Public Comment and Reply Periods on Enhancing ICANN Accountability Process

29 May 2014

In response to ensuring the community has sufficient time, while also having the process in parallel to, and informing, the process to Transition NTIA's Stewardship of the IANA Functions, there is a one (1) week extension of the comment period to 6 June.

Community members are urged to continue identifying members for the Working Group, with those selected by the ICANN London meeting to hold a listening session with the community.

The reply period will close on 27 June at 23:59 UTC.

ICANN has made a preliminary determination that it is prepared to grant three (3) data retention waiver requests submitted by registrars 1API GmbH, ingenit GmbH & Co. KG and RegistryGate GmbH (the "Registrars") under the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement (the "2013 RAA").

As contemplated in the Whois National Law Conflict Procedure (Whois Procedure), this paper opens a review process to solicit community feedback on the effectiveness of the procedure. The community is encouraged to offer comments or suggest possible changes to the procedure, which will be compiled and analyzed to determine a proposed path forward.

In this open meeting, Fadi Chehade, President and CEO, and Jean-Jacques Sahel, Vice-President for Europe at ICANN will discuss the evolutionary milestones taking place in the ICANN and wider Internet Governance ecosystem.

There are a number of initiatives under way at the moment that are important to the evolution of how the Internet is governed. From the successful outcome achieved in Netmundial to the US Government's proposed stewardship transition of the IANA functions and the related ICANN Acountability review, ICANN are keen to present and discuss these initiatives with all interested and concerned stakeholders, as part of ICANN's ongoing objective of enhancing engagement across Europe.
