  Fiorella Belciu:Hand in hand with the GDPR, the European Commission has been working on other needed reforms somehow in line with the EU Digital Agenda. As the GDPR will be implemented by Member States in the EU by 25 May 2018, there have been debates upon whether other reforms such have a faster process to keep up with the GDPR implementation. This is the case also for what has been the ePrivacy Directive in the EU, builds on the EU telecoms and data protection frameworks to ensure that all communications over public networks maintain respect for fundamental rights, in particular a high level of data protection and of privacy, regardless of the technology used. On 10 January 2017 the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications to replace the 2009 Directive. Now this is in the hands of the European Parliament, so it may take a bit longer to reach an agreement and then to pass it to the Council for the trilogue.
