WELCOME TO NPOC

Dear ___________(Name of the Organization and Member)

Welcome on board to the Non-for-Profit Operational Concerns Constituency (NPOC), a home for NGOs who have a domain name and want to participate in the policy that rules this critical internet resource for their operation as organizations.

Inside ICANN´s complex structure, NPOC is one of the two constituencies part of the Non-Commercial Stakeholder Group (NCSG) which, in turn, integrates the Generic Names Supporting Organizations (GNSO). But do not feel dizzy with that, we are here to help you make your first steps inside NPOC and become an active member.

We believe that NGOs have to play a central role in creating, discussing, and reviewing top level domain names policy inside ICANN by considering the problems, challenges, and opportunities that the Domain Name System (DNS) brings to the management and operation of organizations. For that reason, NPOC needs to hear from you, our Members, of operational concerns affecting your organization

Our Members participate in the policy making process which is conducted by the community in working groups, public comments, and open discussions. This work is done mostly remotely by each community over the year and not only in the ICANN meetings that happen three times a year. This means you can get involved at any time in any place!

Being part of the NPOC community also creates networking opportunities for NGOs. As a member of our community, you are connected with different NGOs, located in your region and worldwide with different missions, not always related to the Internet. This translates into the chance of exchanging perspectives, ideas and projects with more than 70 NGOs (and still counting!), giving us also a diverse rich constituency. As well, being part of the ICANN community will give you the opportunity to interact with other stakeholders worldwide.

Too much information, right? How to get started!

As we know that all this information is difficult to understand at the beginning, we have prepared a toolkit to guide you through NPOC´s work, and to help you navigate the ICANN´s ecosystem. There, you could find detailed information about the NPOC structure, current working groups, the role of the Executive Committee (ExCom) inside NPOC, elections and much more, there is also a list of acronyms as we know they can be very tricky!

If you have any question, comments, concern or feedback please don’t hesitate to contact us at ______________, we will gladly help you!

Let’s start working together!

Best wishes,
