You are invited to participate the inaugural APRALO Fireside chat: "Let’s Talk about GNSO PDP 3.0" on Thursday 26 May 2022 at 06:00 UTC for 60 minutes, where Justine Chew will be chatting with her guest, Cheryl Langdon-Orr, the immediate past ALAC Liaison to the GNSO Council.

Justine and Cheryl look forward to having participants for their informal conversation on a few key aspects of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO)'s operating procedure for consensus policy development for Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs).

Given that a significant proportion of the At-Large Community's participation in ICANN multistakeholder policy development is centered around its contributions towards consensus policies on gTLDs, it would be helpful for the At-Large Community to understand how the GNSO policy development process (GNSO PDP) works, and where and when At-Large participation in GSNO PDPs is needed. This can be facilitated through a general appreciation of the GNSO Operating Procedures and Related Documents such as the Policy Development Process (PDP) Manual, the Expedited GNSO Policy Development Process (EPDP) Manual, the GNSO Guidance Process (GGP) Manual, as well as the implementation of GNSO PDP 3.0 in introducing incremental improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of GNSO PDPs.

Do you feel daunted in reading or hearing about all these long-worded terms or references to multiple names and documents? Would you like a refresher on how At-Large plays a role in consensus policy development for gTLDs within ICANN? Do you want to find out how you can get involved in At-Large discussions on policy issues from an individual end user's perspective?

Fear not! Come along to Justine and Cheryl's conversation on Thursday 26 May 2022 at 06:00 UTC.

Don't forget to pre-register your participation! And if you have any, please let us have your questions on this topic by posting them as comments to this wiki page below; or if you prefer, submit them by emailing staff at staff@atlarge.icann.org

Guest & Moderator Profiles:

Cheryl Langdon-Orr is a long-time member of the ICANN Community and has held numerous leadership positions throughout her multi-year engagement with ICANN, not to mention her association with Internet Australia (IA) (formally known as the Internet Society of Australia ( ISOC-AU)) as well as being a former director of the Domain Name Administration for the .au ccTLD.  While having held leadership positions in APRALO, ALAC and At-Large in general, GNSO and even cross-community ICANN groups, all of which are far too many to list here, two of Cheryl's most recent leadership roles must be highlighted - first, as the former ALAC Liaison to the GNSO Council from 2016 to 2021, and second, as the Co-Chair of the GNSO Subsequent Procedures PDP Working Group.  Her experience in these two leadership roles alone hold her in high stead to tell us about the GNSO, and GNSO policy development for new Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs), although being immensely generous in sharing her knowledge, Cheryl has tonnes of experience to draw on.

Justine Chew is the Co-Chair of the APRALO Policy Forum (APF) and leads the APF Fireside Chats Program. She is also currently serving as the ALAC Liaison to the GNSO Council, and was formerly the ALAC Member selected by the ICANN Nominating Committee to represent the Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Region for 2019-2021. Justine has been and continues to be active in a number of GNSO PDP Working Groups, including the New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG (where she served as the At-Large liaison for a time), the Review of All Rights Protection Mechanisms in All gTLDs Phase 1 PDP WG, the EPDP on Specific Curative Rights Protections for IGOs, and the EPDP on Internationalized Domain Names (where she also serves as Vice Chair). Justine is an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya and continues to practise law in Malaysia while pursuing policy-related work in ICANN, among other broad interests.
