Alfredo Calderon: Thanks to Brian and William for being with us to share some basic knowledge in their area of expertise to educate us; end-users in At Large. Welcome to both Brian and William.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:00) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: I @Joanna, will do a great job of 'co-chairing' this dialogue.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:05) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: Welcome to 'Fellows" and "Newcomers" in the audience to this Capacity Building session.

Alfredo Calderon: Hi Brian and Andrew.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:30) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: @Brian <Question> Based on data collected, has any changes been done to enhance Policy to better serve registrants?<Question>

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:34) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: @Brian, as a followup - <Question> As a relative newcomer to ICANN, how has At Large contributed to serve as an empowered community to modify Policiy? <Question>

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:37) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: @Joanna, for non-technical end-users this information is great to create some educational materials in ICANN Learn under AT Large curriculum.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:38) ---------------------------------------------------

Mario Aleman: How It Works - Root Server Operations https://64.schedule.icann.org/meetings/962013

Alfredo Calderon: I have actually been present when the more technical presentations are delivered. Thank you, Brian and Andrew.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:43) ---------------------------------------------------

Presentation: Thank you Alfredo, your questions have been noted.

Beran Gillen: morning /evening all

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:44) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: @Presentation, I 'm guessing that previous questions will address mine.

Joanna Kulesza: Remote questions have been noted, we'll take them after the current list, thank you

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:47) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Question to Brian - Do you anticipate any competition for the Roor Server Operations in the short, medium and long term?

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:50) ---------------------------------------------------

Syed Iftikhar H. SHah: <comment> There is a lack of capacity building on the ICANN matters in developing countries  stakeholders particulary the end users/registrant. It is suggested that ICANN may work with relevant Governments (through GAC)  for the capacity buidlings. It will help ICANN in PDP processes and to aovid future associated risks <Comment>

Alfredo Calderon: Root Servers - https://www.iana.org/domains/root/servers

Mario Aleman: http://www.root-servers.org/

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 17:54) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: Map at - http://www.root-servers.org/

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:04) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Question: We can see from the map the instances run by the operators, including consortiums, universities etc but also run by ICANN as an operator.. can we know out of the 1000 instances, how many are run by ICANN as an operator

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:05) ---------------------------------------------------

Vicky Risk, ISC: At the bottom of the page (on the web site with the root map) you can select a root ‘letter’ to view. if you select “L” you will see the ICANN instances.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:08) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Thanks @Vicky.. i got the answer and it is 164 out of 948 instances that are run by ICANN

Alfredo Calderon: San Juan, PR is an instance under J - Root Server

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:11) ---------------------------------------------------

Vicky Risk, ISC: There is another document on that page with a lot of statistics and research about root server location and response times by location. http://root-servers.org/news/20170918-DNS.Statistics.pdf

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:13) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: +1 Holly. End-users or Registrants are not aware of even where to go to reach these resources. So the question is <Question> Why should I as a registrant even consider what to have? Why not just a Facebook page or use Social Media to do e-Commerce so forth?<Question>

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:15) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Thanks @Vicky for the document. However its is dated 18 September 2017 where it mentions DNS root name service is provided from more than 750 different locations in the Internet topology. It would be good if the document could be updated

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:18) ---------------------------------------------------

Heidi Ullrich: @Dave, we will add your question about competition.

Dave Kissoondoyal: Thanks @Heidi

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:22) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: Thank you @all for your insightful and honest answers and views on these important topics.

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:24) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Ok NOTED with thanks

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:26) ---------------------------------------------------

Dave Kissoondoyal: Thanks a lot

Syed Iftikhar H. SHah: my viewpoint is not discussed

--------------------------------------------------- (03/12/2019 18:28) ---------------------------------------------------

Alfredo Calderon: Yes @John we will see how we can acommodate this topic in NASIG 2019.

Alfredo Calderon: Well done!
