IGO-INGO Access to Curative Rights Protection Mechanisms PDP - update

What it's about: This is a Policy Development Process (PDP) to explore whether or not existing curative rights dispute resolution processes should be amended to address the particular needs of International Governmental Organizations (IGOs) and International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs). Here the PDP Working Group (WG) co-chairs will provide an update on the WG's activities since the last ICANN meeting.

Purpose of gTLD Registration Data Directory Services Final Issue Report - update and discussion

What it's about: This is a Board-mandated PDP on the purpose of gTLD Data Directory Services, including the possibility of replacing today's WHOIS system. An Expert Working Group had published a report on a possible next-generation Registration Directory Service (RDS) in June 2014 and a Board-GNSO process group had been convened to facilitate the conduct of this PDP. New gTLD Auction Proceeds - update

What it's about: A Discussion Paper calling for a broad, open and inclusive participation and comments regarding the proceeds from ICANN-conducted auctions of contested strings in the New gTLD Program was published for public comment in September 2015, closing on 8 November. An update on the timeline and related topics will be provided.

What it's about: A number of possible improvements to the GNSO PDP mechanisms have been proposed with the aim of facilitating more effective PDP outcomes and encouraging broader participation in this key policy development activity. ICANN policy staff has been steadily implementing the approved improvements, and will provide an update on the most recent implementation effort for further community discussion.

New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Preliminary Issue Report - update and discussion

What it's about: In response to a GNSO Council request, ICANN staff published a Preliminary Issue Report on possible changes that may be required for New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, based on a set of deliverables prepared by a GNSO Discussion Group on the topic. The report was published on 31 August, with the public comment period due by 30 October. An update on the Preliminary Issue Report will be presented for further discussion. Note that a Preliminary Issue Report is a mandatory first step in any potential GNSO PDP.

Review of All RPMs in All gTLDs Preliminary Issue Report - update and discussion

What it's about: At the request of the GNSO Council, ICANN staff published a Preliminary Issue Report on the possibility of reviewing all trademark rights protection mechanisms (RPMs) in all gTLDs, including the long established Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy and the RPMs subsequently developed for the New gTLD Program. The Report was published on 9 October, with public comments due by 30 November. The basic recommendations in the report will be presented for further discussion at this session.

Data and Metrics for Policy Making Working Group - Final Report

What it's about: This non-PDP Working Group was chartered to explore opportunities for developing reporting and metrics processes and/or appropriate standardized methodologies that could better inform fact-based policy development and decision making. It delivered its Final Report to th GNSO Council on 9 October. The WG chair will present the basic recommendations from the Final Report, with a view to the GNSO Council's voting on it during its Public Meeting on 21 October.

Privacy & Proxy Services Accreditation Issues PDP WG - update

What it's about: This PDP Working Group was chartered to develop policy recommendations to guide ICANN's implementation of an accreditation program for privacy and proxy service providers. The WG published its Initial Report for public comment in May 2015, and is preparing to finalize its Final Report for the GNSO Council. The WG co-chairs will update the GNSO community on the status of the work in reviewing the comments received, and its progress toward a Final Report.

GNSO Review - update

What it's about: On 15 September 2015 the Independent Examiner conducting the GNSO Review published its Final Report. The GNSO Working Party that had been working with the Independent Examiner has since been meeting to discuss implementation details as well as the possibility of providing comments on the report to the ICANN Board's Organizational Effectiveness Committee that is overseeing the review. An update on the Working Party's deliberations will be provided for further discussion.
