Trip Assessment Form

1) Describe how the original Purpose and Goals were accomplished:

During the Africa Internet Summit 2015 (AIS'15) held in Tunis from 24 May to 5 June 2015, the activities I conducted are:

  • Make a power-point presentation on the Role Played by AFRALO in Africa (its mandate, functions and activities).
  • Find interested organizations to explain them the interest for them to join AFRALO, and explaining the procedure to apply for certification as At-Large Structure,
  • Participate in the organization of the workshop AFRALO,
  • Explain the participation and the involvement of AFRALO in the development of policies and activities in ICANN,
  • Try to make the involvement in ICANN work attractive and explain the importance of the participation of the African community in discussions raised by ICANN and the important role played by AFRALO to accomplish these tasks.
  • Highlight the contributions of AFRALO particularly in the debate on hot topics of ICANN and the contribution of our organization in the public forum by two statements on the transition of the stewardship of IANA Naming Functions (2nd Draft Proposal of the Cross Community Working Group to Develop an IANA Stewardship Transition Proposal on Naming Related Functions) and also on enhancing the ICANN Accountability.

2) Describe how the original Outcomes were achieved:

Thanks to trips within the CROPP project, AFRALO has gained much in visibility and importance. Indeed, we have received in recent months, three new At-Large Structures (ISOC Uganda, Zimbabwe ISOC, High Tech Centre for Nigerian Women and Youths) to join AFRALO.

AFRALO has also benefited from the involvement of two young Africans who have joined the team and brought a lot to AFRALO with their involvement and their contributions in the various working groups. One of them (Seun Ojedeji) was appointed AFRALO Representative to the ALAC for next AGM.

3) Date Completed:11-Sep-2015
4) Additional information pertaining to this outreach event (optional):

It should be mentioned that AFRALO took part for the first time at the Open ceremony as Af *. I participated with a speech on behalf of the Official AFRALO panel with the two Ministers of Tunisia and Ivory Coast as well as several African Organizations (Af *).
