Key ICANN Brand Elements

The ICANN letterforms are custom-drawn and should not be recreated in any other form. The type family is Tahoma, which ensures the logo remains easy to read even at small point sizes.

There are a few special applications of our core brand elements, but the basic rule is this: never separate the ICANN letterform and the graphic element. The logo is supplied as artwork and should not be recreated under any circumstances. Contact Communications at icann.communications@icann.org to request the ICANN logo in an electronic file.

Use the logo only in black, white, or the corporate blue gradient. When placed on a dark color or a color having insufficient contrast, the logo must be reversed out.

Color Use

Regular: Solid blue (Pantone Matching System 546), and gradient blue. This version should be used whenever possible. The globe and number sign, horizon and the letters I-C-A-N-N in Tahoma type font, as they appear here, make up the official ICANN logo.

Black and white: This version should only be used when color is not an option.

When reversed out of black, the entire logo should be in white.

Under No Circumstances

  • Should the logo be used in a way that is contrary to the policies in this guide or to the intention of these policies.
  • Should the logo be given to a third party for use without prior authorization from the Office of General Counsel or Communications.
  • Should the logo be downloaded from low resolution versions on ICANN.ORG and other websites.
  • Should the logo be scanned, recreated or manipulated in any manner. When resizing the logo, make sure that the aspect ratios remain unchanged. Avoid creating or using distorted logos.
  • Should color logos be printed in black and white publications. Use color logos with color publications, and black and white logos with black and white publications.

Images and Photographs

The logo can be used over a light contrast photographic background or colored image, but should be placed in a way that ensures it stands out clearly and properly from the background. Use the logo only a background image that provides sufficient contrast and has a good, even tone.

Minimum Clear Space

It is essential to ensure that the logo is given appropriate space around it. Adhere to the minimum clear space defined here in all normal use of the ICANN logo.

Calculating the minimum clear space is straightforward: the height of the letter "N" taken from the ICANN letterform defines the width and height of the clear space that must surround the ICANN logo. Ensure that no text, graphics or images intrude into this clear space.

In designing print and online materials, space may be at a premium and there is pressure to squeeze the logo and its clear space. However, it is essential to adhere to the clear space rule in all normal usage. For example, it is quite common for event promotion materials – such as those prepared for ICANN international meetings – to carry several logos. It is important that these supporting logos not interfere with the main ICANN logo, and the clear space rule ensures this does not happen.
