1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail | International Telecoms Week, in Chicago Illinois in early May 2018, was an exciting experience. It seemed like nearly every ISP in the world was there. Though it was difficult sometimes to assess who the most relevant parties at those ISPs was to talk to, it was evident that this was the most relevant ISP related conference I have ever attended. Every single participant was a potential candidate for membership - it was simply a matter of being able to find the right way to connect with them. 6743 attendees were there, from 1944 companies, representing 139 countries. It was packed. The hardest part was trying to build relevance to my message, and to get in front of an audience who cared. To that end, I contacted the individual running a session titled “Understanding the Carrier Role in the IOT Boom”. Without paying to sponsor a session, the best I could do is request to make a short ISPCP pitch during that session, which I did successfully. I asked people to come talk to me afterwards if they wanted more information. Two did, and I provided them with my own contact info, as well as information to research the ISPCP. More successful were the evening networking events, where I pitched ISPCP to numerous ISPs. At least one, PCCW from Hong Kong, should be submitting their application for membership in the near future, once the right approvals come through. In truth, this is a meeting that is far more about meetings, doing business, socializing and connecting than it is about the sessions. The sessions were lightly attended. Even getting two people interested during my small speaking window was impressive, given the low priority placed on the agenda. |
2) Explain the extent to which the Proposed Goals and Outcomes were accomplished (see above LINK to review the original Proposal): |

3) Additional information pertaining to this outreach Trip (optional): | This is a great event for the ISPCP, but our approach to engagement was a learning experience. With more planning and investment, we could do more with this event in subsequent years. Chris Mondini from ICANN attended the event as well, and I suspect he likely walked away with similar conclusions. Both of us were told of another event in Hawaii in January that is similar, and we may wish to consider exploring it as well. Most of the people I met asked if they would see me in Hawaii in January, so it seems that there is a similar global makeup of all the major ISP players attending that event. It is called PTC Conference: https://www.ptc.org/ [ptc.org] |
