The Internet Society Malaysia Chapter, ISOC-MY is was founded in April 2010 as a non-profit, user-focused organization which promotes development of the Internet in Malaysia to benefit the whole community, including business, academic, professional, and private Internet users. ISOC-MY has more than 900 members which are legal companies, research institutes, academic associations, universities and other organizations engaged in various activities related with Internet.

On 13 September 2012, Internet Society Malaysia Chapter has been was certified as an At-Large Structure (ALS) by ICANN's At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC).

The Internet Society Malaysia Chapter is was officially registered under the Malaysian Societies Act 1966 (Act 335) as the Internet Society Malaysia (Pertubuhan Internet Malaysia) with the Registrar of Society, Malaysia on  on 24 September 2017. The Society's Malaysian Registrar of Society (RoS) registration number for ISOC-MY is PPM-010-02-24092017.
