ALAC Event

Extensive  back to back speakers  covering the  new developments with ICANN, interesting announcement  of   Alan Grogan as Head of Compliance  by Fadi today.  The  report by Theresa and the ATRT2  implementation was  the most informative.  The  LACRALO  Roadshow  is also interesting and  NARALO would be interested in the same idea

Dev and myself will be meeting with  Aswin Rangan to discuss our  perspective on the Knowledge System  for  ALAC

Suggested to authors of  the Beginners  guide to create  a  EBOOK  and Complimentary videos  for the guide.   Very short  videos  that  demonstrate an idea or  deal with Q and A.  Did this for  ISOC   created a  E book and  distributed it through  Amazon, Itunes and  Archives.org( Free)   We need to start thinking of  Open Pub  distribution on mobile phones and Just IN Time  training.  Link to book

LAC Space in ICANN Meetings
http://la51.icann.org/en/schedule/mon-lac-space

Held in the "GAC" tent

This meeting is an outcome of the LAC Strategy Plan.

There are quite a few persons from ICANN staff (4-5 persons) helping the ICANN's LAC Community implement the community's LAC Strategy Plan who gave an update of the LAC Strategy

It was well attended with 80+ persons :

There was a disappointing lack of the "C" in the agenda, with presentations regarding LA e-commerce.

However, the GDD Underserved Regions Outreach Update regarding lack of ICANN accredited registry/registrars in such regions was interesting. The Caribbean has only 2 registrars and mention was made of several RAA requirements such as $500,000 US insurance which are significant challenges for a prospective Caribbean registrar. Anthony Harris, for .LAT also spoke of the challenges of trying to signing a registrar agreement and the inability to do so so far. An updated report would be available for comment soon.
