LAC Space in ICANN Meetings

This meeting is an outcome of the LAC Strategy Plan.

There are quite a few persons from ICANN staff (4-5 persons) helping the ICANN's LAC Community implement the community's LAC Strategy Plan who gave an update of the LAC Strategy

 

It was well attended with 80+ persons :

There was a disappointing lack of the "C" in the agenda, with presentations regarding LA e-commerce.

However, the GDD Underserved Regions Outreach Update regarding lack of ICANN accredited registry/registrars in such regions was interesting. The Caribbean has only 2 registrars and mention was made of several RAA requirements such as $500,000 US insurance which are significant challenges for a prospective Caribbean registrar. Anthony Harris, for the Caribbean.LAT also spoke of the challenges of trying to signing a registrar agreement and the inability to do so so far. An updated report would be available for comment soon.
