Trip Assessment Form

1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail
that an interested reader could understand if/how
the original purpose(s) and outcome(s) were
realized (please be as expansive as possible):

The International Trademark Association (INTA) Annual Meeting is the largest international gathering of trademark owners and brand advocates in the world. INTA hosts numerous sessions that address topics relevant to the work of the IPC, including brand protection post-GDPR and INTA internet committee discussions on ongoing ICANN PDPs such as Rights Protection Mechanism Review, New gTLD Subsequent Procedures and Data Protection/Next Generation RDS. There were also numerous formal and informal networking opportunities. The INTA meeting also provides an exceptional opportunity to increase awareness and participation by demonstrating the critical importance of ICANN issues, and IPC advocacy, to this prospect-rich group.

2) Describe the details of your attendance
and
activities at the meeting (including sessions
attended, written or oral contributions made to
specific sessions, etc.):

There were numerous sessions on the agenda that included topics relevant to the work of the IPC, including brand protection post-GDPR and INTA internet committee discussions on ongoing ICANN PDPs such as Rights Protection Mechanism Review, New gTLD Subsequent Procedures and Data Protection/Next Generation RDS. There were also numerous formal and informal networking opportunities. The INTA meeting provided an exceptional opportunity to increase awareness and participation by demonstrating the critical importance of ICANN issues, and IPC advocacy, to this prospect-rich group.

I am the IPC Participation Coordinator and in my capacity as a member of the IPC Outreach and Engagement Committee, I performed IPC outreach including to INTA Internet Committee members.  I also disseminated copies of the IPC's factsheet to share with participants with the purposes of increasing awareness and networking with potential IPC members (this fact sheet can be viewed at:  https://www.ipconstituency.org/assets/Fact-Sheets/2019_IPC%20Fact%20Sheet.pdf

Attendance at this event was in-line with the IPC’s FY19 Outreach plan (IPC Outreach Strategic Plan), in particular in seeking to build membership and encourage diversity.  Although the INTA 2019 meeting takes place in the US it is truly global, and attended by upwards of 10,000 individuals from around the world.

3) Explain the specific plans for follow-up activities
to enhance and continue the objectives of the trip for
the community structure through which you were
approved for the trip:
I plan to follow up with numerous individuals who I met at INTA to share information on the IPC and the issues the IPC works on for the IP community with respect to DNS issues. This follow up will include: phone calls, emails, in-person meetings, and encouraging people to attend future ICANN meetings, among other methods.
4) Please fill out the date when you have completed this form:
