1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail | As a rightholder representative organisation (IFPI represents the recorded music industry worldwide), fair legal frameworks and business practices are essential for sustainable digital markets. ICANN and its contracting parties have key roles in creating safe online environments, and we and many others have been alarmed by ICANN and the contracting parties' response to the GDPR and the consequent effects upon the WHOIS system., The meeting therefore provided an opportunity to attend and participate in the sessions regarding WHOIS and GDPR, and also to meet with stakeholders outside of the scheduled meetings. I attended all of the IPC and BC individual and cross-community sessions, as well as numerous other sessions. I wouldn't say we saw any substantial progress towards a satisfactory outcome vis-à-vis WHOIS, but we continue to regard the ICANN meetings as important and something we will continue to attend where possible. |
2) Describe the details of your attendance | As stated above, I attended all IPC and BC individual and cross-community sessions, as well as all other sessions relating to WHOIS and GDPR, and made representations in some of those meetings. I contributed to the discussions and provided input to IPC leadership on IPC positions. |
3) Explain the specific plans for follow-up activities to enhance and continue the objectives of the trip for the community structure through which you were approved for the trip: | Continued engagement with IPC and with stakeholders from other constituencies, including support for those involved in the WHOIS EPDP. Unfortunately IFPI’s national group Promisicae was not able to attend in person, but I reported the meeting to our national group and members. We are hoping our Japanese group will be able to attend the next meeting in Kobe. |
4) Please fill out the date when you have completed this form: | 22-Jan-2019 |
Note: To be completed by a Program Coordinator (PC) designated by this organization/structure.
