The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has completed annual, third-party audits of the IANA Registry Management Systems and DNSSEC services it provides.
For the sixth consecutive year, ICANN has achieved Service Organization Control (SOC) 3 certification for its management of the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) Root Key Signing Key. This certification demonstrates that the processes used to modify the root key signing key, which acts as the trust anchor of the DNS, contain appropriate security measures, and that these processes have been executed as planned. The certificate is publicly available at: http://iana.org/audits.
For the third consecutive year, a SOC 2 audit of the IANA registry maintenance systems confirms that ICANN has the appropriate controls in place to ensure the security, availability and processing integrity of these systems. ICANN began undergoing SOC 2 audits in 2013.
Accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers conducted the audits using the Service Organization Control framework managed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The framework measures an organization's systems against a set of "trust services principles and criteria." Learn more: http://iana.org/audits.
About ICANN
ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you have to type an address into your computer - a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation and a community with participants from all over the world. ICANN and its community help keep the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It also promotes competition and develops policy for the top-level of the Internet's naming system and facilitates the use of other unique Internet identifiers. lCANN launches the application round for those interested in participating at the ICANN57 Meeting through the Fellowship Program. The Meeting will be held 29 October - 4 November 2016.
This round remains open until 27 May 2016 and successful candidates will be announced on the ICANN website, 27 July 2016.
The Fellowship Program
The ICANN Fellowship program seeks out those who are interested in, or already engaged in, the various components of Internet Governance (specifically ICANN's work in Policy Building, the Operation of the Domain Name System and the Security and Stability of the Global Internet. The goal of the Program is to help create a broader base of knowledgeable constituents to engage in the ICANN Multistakeholder process and become the new voice of experience in their regions and on the global stage. Priority is given to those who are from developing nations, and those who may not be able to self-fund to attend an ICANN Meeting without ICANN Fellowship.
Since its creation in 2007, the Fellowship Program has built a strong group of individuals who are actively participating in all of the ICANN communities as well as various Internet Governance entities within the Internet Ecosystem. Their engagement ranges from writing articles and blogs, providing online or in-person public comment in regard to bottom up policy building, engaging in Internet conferences and panel discussions, lifting a pen in working groups, mentoring newcomers, assisting our regional leaders and becoming leaders themselves.

13 April 2016
ICANN is pleased to announce the successful evaluation of four additional proposed IDN ccTLD strings for India.
Details of the successful evaluation are provided here: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/idn/fast-track/string-evaluation-completion
The Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) ccTLD Fast Track Process was approved by the ICANN Board at its annual meeting in Seoul, South Korea on 30 October 2009. First requests were received starting 16 November 2009. The process enables countries and territories to submit requests to ICANN for IDN ccTLDs, representing their respective country or territory names in scripts other than Latin. IDN ccTLD requesters must fulfill a number of requirements:
- The script used to represent the IDN ccTLDs must be non-Latin;
- The languages used to express the IDN ccTLDs must be official in the corresponding country or territory; and
- A specific set of technical requirements must be met.
The request and evaluation processes entail three steps:
- Preparation (by the requester in the country / territory): Community consensus is built for which IDN ccTLD to apply for, how it is run, and which organization will be running it, along with preparing and gathering all the required supporting documentation. Requests are submitted through an online system together with additional material supporting the process at http://forms.icann.org/idn/apply.php
- String Evaluation: Requests are evaluated in accordance with the technical and linguistic requirements for the IDN ccTLD string(s) criteria described above.
- String Delegation: Requests successfully meeting string evaluation criteria are eligible to apply for delegation following the same ICANN IANA process as is used for ASCII based ccTLDs. Requesters submit string delegation requests to IANA root zone management: root-mgmt@iana.org.
With this announcement, requests from a total of 39 countries/territories have successfully passed through the String Evaluation stage. Of these, 33 countries/territories (represented by 43 IDN ccTLDs) are delegated in the DNS root zone, with the remainder either readying to apply, or actively applying for delegation of the string. Up-to-date information about the IDN Fast Track Program will continue to be provided on the Fast Track Process web page at https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/fast-track-2012-02-25-en.
ICANN will continue to accept new string evaluation requests for non-Latin country-code top-level domains for countries and territories that meet the Fast Track Process requirements. Please email idncctldrequest@icann.org for any inquiries for participation.

12 April 2016
ICANN will be holding community calls during which the comments submitted on the Draft FY17 Operating Plan and Budget will be presented by the submitters to ICANN staff. This is intended to enhance the understanding of the comments and so improve the quality of the response.
This process was implemented to improve the public comment process, consistently with ATRT2 recommendations (#12.1 and #12.5).
All calls will be public, focused on the organization that submitted comments, and attended by at least one Board Finance Committee member. Additional board members may attend based on availability.
The staff and Board members attending will primarily listen and ask clarifying questions. Responses to public comments will not be provided during these calls, unless the comments are factual with a very specific and simple answer.
All submitted comments can be found in the public comments forum.
The schedule for these calls, along with dial-in information, will be published on the Community Wiki Finance Workspace as dates and times are agreed with each stakeholder group.
Dear All,
This is to let you know that the ALAC Statement on the Draft Framework of Principles for Cross Community Working Groups is now final. Alan Greenberg, Chair of the ALAC, has asked that the 15 ALAC members to ratify this final Statement.
To read the final Statement, please visit: https://community.icann.org/x/ZxaAAw.
Please note that the ALAC ratification vote will start on 11 April 2016 23:59 UTC and end on 15 April 2016 23:59 UTC.
