Dear All,
We are very pleased to announce the launch of the brand new website of the ICANN At-Large Community, available at: atlarge.icann.org!
Over the past year, the At-Large Community and ICANN Staff have provided dedicated efforts to create a more engaging website. The goal is to make the site an effective engagement tool and a one-stop shop for finding:
* News
* Activities of the ALAC, RALOs and ALSes, and
* ways to get involved in the At-Large community
This community-driven effort has resulted in a big step forward for At-Large with this official release of the new website!
Post launch, we expect our website to continue to evolve with new content that can be easily created and updated. Other features that we anticipate to evolve include:
* ALS Applications – New submission process for organizations that apply to become ALSes
* Translations – Translations for additional static labels and content, public comment information from icann.org, and curated content submitted by the At-Large Community
* Accessibility – Continued progress towards WCAG Level AA certification, relabeling of images with alternative text, and KIFs
* Content Templates – Additional formats for content authoring via the generic content template
Please expect to see updates on a bi-weekly basis with light feature releases every quarter. The next update will be in June 2016. The previous old site will be unpublished and archived at legacy-atlarge.icann.org.
We hope you enjoy using the new website and find that it has an updated look and easy to access information.
We would also like to thank our At-Large Community, especially the At-Large Website Revamp Taskforce, as well as our ICANN IT team and offshore developers who gave their time, energy, and support to make the new website live!
For any questions, suggestions, feedback or comments, please email Ariel Liang (ariel.liang@icann.org) of At-Large Staff and/or Laura Bengford (laura.bengford@icann.org) of ICANN’s Digital Engagement and Product Team.

Fellowship and NextGen@ICANN Application Rounds for ICANN56
10 February 2016
On 22 January, lCANN launched the application rounds for both the NextGen@ICANN and Fellowship Programs to participate in ICANN56 in Panama City, Panama in June 2016.
On 5 February, ICANN announced that due to the severity of the Zika Virus outbreak in the Latin America region, ICANN56 would be relocated and that a search is underway to identify an alternate location where the Zika Virus is not a concern. ICANN looks forward to returning to Panama for a future ICANN Meeting.
What does this mean for Program Applicants?
As the NextGen@ICANN Program is region-specific, ICANN has suspended the application process, pending the announcement of the new Meeting location. Once the new location is announced, we will make a decision on the status of this Program for ICANN56.
This round remains open for eligible Fellowship candidates until 19 February 2016 and successful Fellowship candidates will be announced on the ICANN website, 25 March 2016.
As a reminder, an important distinction regarding this round of the Fellowship Program is that only those who have previously participated in at least one ICANN Fellowship can apply. This is due to the new ICANN Meeting Strategy / Meeting B that is specifically focused on policy making and on-going work within ICANN Communities, therefore only those Alumni of the Program who are currently actively engaged in one of the ICANN Multistakeholder Model Communities are eligible to participate.
The Fellowship Program
The ICANN Fellowship program seeks participants from developing countries of the world in order to help create a broader base of knowledgeable constituents to engage in the Multistakeholder process and become the new voice of experience in their regions and beyond. Since its creation in 2007, the Fellowship Program has built a strong group of individuals who are actively participating in all of the ICANN communities as well as various Internet Governance entities within the Internet Ecosystem. Their engagement ranges from writing articles and blogs, providing online or in-person public comment in regard to bottom up policy building, engaging in Internet conferences and panel discussions, lifting a pen in working groups, mentoring newcomers, assisting our regional leaders and becoming leaders themselves.
Find out more about applying to the Fellowship »
The NextGen@ICANN Program (currently not available for ICANN56 Applications)
The NextGen@ICANN program remains the same for Meeting A, B and C: it is an education and awareness based experience, designed for a smaller, younger, and more region-specific group of participants. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30, live in the region of the meeting, and be engaged in some level of higher education, with focus on Internet related subject matter. Each selected member will deliver a 5-10 minute presentation on a topic relevant to the community. Recent presentation topics include Internet governance, DNS, and the future of the Internet.

ICANN is pleased to remind community members that the nomination period for ICANN's Multistakeholder Ethos Award is open until 12 March 2016. This award program, launched in June 2014 in London, seeks to recognize long-standing community members who have served in leadership roles in multiple ICANN working groups or committees, and demonstrated collaboration with different Supporting Organizations and/or Advisory Committees.
The Multistakeholder Ethos Award will recognize ICANN participants who have deeply invested in consensus-based solutions, acknowledging the importance of ICANN's multistakeholder model of Internet governance, and contributed in a substantive way to the higher interests of ICANN's organization and its community.
The nomination period for community nominees closes on 12 March 2016.
Community members interested in submitting a nomination are invited to send an email to ethosaward2016@icann.org including:
- Name of nominee.
- Community of nominee.
- Reasons for nomination.
Please note that the reasons outlining the candidate's merit for the nomination may be as brief or as long as required.
Candidates for the award will demonstrate at least five years of participation in the ICANN Community.
A panel of community members is being gathered to help review all community nominations and determine the best candidate(s) for the award(s). The decisions of the panel will be made based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated multistakeholder volunteer service via working groups or committees.
- Demonstrated spirit of collaboration through engagement with other community members with the aim of consensus building.
- Demonstrated facilitator of dialogue and open discussion in a fair, cordial and collegial manner.
