  1. Takeaways from APF Town Hall Meeting

An APRALO Policy Forum Town Hall Meeting took place over 2 sessions on 10 Aug 2023.  Session #1 EN drew 34 participants while Session #2 EN  attracted 13 repeat participants and 10 new ones.  From the discussions and polls conducted, we roughly established the following:

    • An overwhelming majority felt that our top 3 priorities (IDNs & UA, DNS Abuse mitigation, and ICANN Governance & Global Public Interest monitoring) should remain as top priorities.
    • In addition, we should consider discussing two additional topics of Internet fragmentation and the Next Round of New gTLDs.
    • The ICANN77 Readout was thought to be the most effective in achieving its goal, followed by single topic consultations, webinars and Fireside Chats.
    • A lack of knowledge on or complexity of topics  and a lack of time to spend on ICANN matters were the 2 top challenges.
    • Participants were keen to participate in various APF activities, ranging from (in order of preference):
      • Single topic consultations
      • Webinars
      • Periodic short surveys
      • Fireside Chats
      • 1-to-1 informal conversations
    • Other comments on how to improve APF activities:
      • Allot time to discuss ongoing projects/initiatives of importance
      • Drill down on IDNs and gTLD strategy
      • Simplifying complex topics
      • Regular policy discussions, webinars, workshops, interactive events on ICANN, hot topics
      • Regular updates via WA or Skype
      • Use real-time tools, more open mic
