As per Section 19.9 of the ALAC Rules of Procedure, RALOs have their opportunity to start possible petition process and suggest adding to the Board Candidate Evaluation Committee (BCEC) Slate other Candidates who have submitted Expression of Interests (EoIs) for the ICANN Board Director position. The successfully petitioned Candidates, who have received support through a formal vote of at least three of the five RALOs, will be included in the Final Slate.

RALO Petition Result
By the deadline of 29 January 2017 23:59 UTC, the optional Regional At-Large Organization (RALO) petition process in the ICANN Board Director selection did not result in any successful petition to add names to the BCEC Slate of Candidates and this stage of the process has now concluded. Specifically, APRALO, LACRALO, and NARALO do not support EURALO’s petition to add Sebastien Bachollet to the Final Slate of Candidates. AFRALO's vote on its decision on EURALO's petition did not reach quorum by the poll closing time. According to Section 19.9 of the ALAC Rules of Procedure, Candidates will be added only if they receive support through a formal vote of at least three (3) of the five RALOs.

The 3rd of January I sent the following email to the list: "Dear All, As you are aware, we are in a process for the At-large community to participate in the process of choosing the 15th position for the ICANN board. On 16 December 2016, the BCEC concluded its Candidate Evaluation process and announced that the following Candidates will be named as the (initial) BCEC Slate of Candidates, be automatically included in the Final Slate, and go forward to the next stage of the selection process organized by the BMSPC. The Candidates, listed in alphabetical order of the last name, are: Alan Greenberg (Canada) Leon Felipe Sanchez Ambia (Mexico) In spite of the above, LACRALO has the option to incorporate more candidates to this list. The candidates that can be incorporated are the following:
Candidates will be added only if they receive support through a formal vote of at least three of the five RALOs; each RALO shall vote according to its respective rules. Subsequently, the Final Slate of Candidates will proceed to an election by the ALAC Members and RALO Chairs, which is culmination of the ICANN Board Director selection process. We want to emphasize that the proposal of adding candidates is an OPTION and not an obligation. We can conclude that we do not want to add new candidates to the list. As a result of the above, a discussion process will open that will run until January 9, 2016. The discussion will be carried out in LACRALO's mailing list and in the wiki in the following link. If there is consensus or a majority opinion that we must add a new candidate, an election process will be open, and it will run from January 12, 2017 until January 18, 2017. Via the na-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org mailing list, NARALO Chair Glenn McKnight consulted with NARALO members on whether an electronic vote should be held to solicit members' opinion on supporting or opposing EURALO's petition for Sebastien Bachollet. Within 24 hours, 12 members expressed their opinions with 4 members in favor of a vote and 8 members against a vote.
