Question Submitted on 30 July 2018: "What is the Board’s perspective on whether ICANN, the organization or a constituent part thereof, such an SO or AC, can be an applicant under any circumstances?"
Response Received:
- Initial comments from Becky Burr on 31 July 2018: "I guess my view is that we would not rule it out so long as the proposed use of the funds was (1) within ICANN's Mission and (2) consistent with the evaluation criteria established for reviewing applications. That said, I would expect it to be the exception rather than the norm, and I don't think that as a rule auction funds should be used for ICANN operations."
