A public comment on the Initial Report on Vertical Integration Between Registrars and Registries is open through 12 August 2010. The public comment forum is an opportunity to comment on any of the proposed vertical integration models that are described the Initial Report.
For Information: The Vertical Integration Working Group Workspace
The aim of this At-Large Community call is to hear from Mike O’Connor and/or Robert Gaetano, chairs of the VI Working Group, and gather community input for the purposes of preparing an ALAC statement.
The GNSO Vertical Integration Working Group has prepared an Initial Report on Vertical Integration Between Registrars and Registries. The Initial Report describes various proposed solutions for restrictions on vertical integration between registrars and registries for adoption in the New gTLD Program.
Input and comment will be called for using the Adobe Connect room and this wiki page. The order will be rotated to ensure all regional and individual input is collected and offered for discussion (including within the Adobe Connect chat space) to allow for all participants to have ample and equitable opportunity to comment and contribute. Time limits will be placed on speakers reflecting the number of speakers wishing to address matters at any given time.
Not sure if I can make the call -- 24 hours of flights on Wednesday. If I can't join, one question: seems to me vertical integration raises a set of issues governments, particularly communications industry regulators, and telecoms policy academics (policy/economists) have been dealing with for years. Has the working group undertaken outreach to GAC for advice as regulatory experts (not GAC advice per se) and to telecoms economics and policy experts?
