Netistrar (ICANN accredited registrar) - director and shareholder. Through OXIL, I work with registries and registrars in the ICANN environment, including EURid, Verisign, Afilias, and new gTLD registries, and as an occasional consultant to ICANN for research projects (eg LAC and MEAC DNS Marketplace studies) and as a subcontractor for others (eg ALAC primer-writing project)

However, my business interests also cover cyber security and internet policy in general, and non-commercial interests such as freedom of expression, privacy and human rights

Yes

If the answer is “yes,” please describe the material interest in ICANN GNSO policy development processes and outcomes:


As as director and shareholder of an ICANN accredited registrar (Netistrar), which is bound to implement consensus policies. However, Netistrar represents a small aspect of my business interests which focus on internet policy in general.

b) Are there any arrangements/agreements between you and any other group, constituency or person(s) regarding your participation as a work team member?


Yes

Consensus policies are developed through the GNSO policy development process. Those outcomes have direct effect on the business of Netistrar and other ICANN accredited registrars

Have been involved in the DNS industry since 1999. Developed Nominet’s WHOIS policy (2001). Served as board member of CENTR (2004-2005), Chair of the WHOIS Review for ICANN (2010-2012), a member of IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group (2006-2012), member of research team for Global Commission on Internet Governance (2014-2016).  

Co-authored studies for ICANN on the Latin American and Middle East DNS marketplaces, and on GNSO PDP effectiveness for ATRT2 and have developed materials on domain name and Whois issues for Lexis Nexis. 

Oxford Information Labs is the creator of Netistrar’s domain name registration control panel which is offered to ICANN accredited registrars and resellers. Oxford Information Labs provides research on internet governance, policy and cyber security issues to clients from the public and private sector and many organisations that are active in the Internet Governance community. Client and recent clients (either directly or through Chatham House) include the British Government, European Commission, EURid, Verisign, Facebook, ICANN, Digital Freedom Fund, IoT Security Foundation, Chatham House.
