The Business Community must be congratulated on the comprehensive details expressed within their new Charter covering all aspects of their organisational structure and management. After 45 versions of the document, the Charter definitely demonstrates that it has left nothing to chance during the public comment period.
The BC Charter is akin to the ALAC Rules of Procedure, and undertaking the task of reading through their work, highlighted the need for a review of our own charter in light of any changes that may result from the At-Large Reviewor from ICANN Evolution developments, and any expectations that may impinge on the ALAC as a result of the formation of the Empowered Community, etc.
There are a couple of relevant sections in the BC document that would be helpful for ALAC to include their own versions of, during our own update.
6.3 - Developing a Written Policy or Position - we could prepare a similar section to demonstrate our own process for writing position or policy papers within ALAC - where ALSes can learn how to participate more effectively. What are we expecting from them during a public comment?.
7.0 - Web presence - Member information - we currently rely on staff to ensure that primary contacts are up to date for our ALSes. Within the BC Exec, the Vice Chair of Finance and Operations has that job... who would have the time to do this on the ALT? Probably give it back tot he staff.. but primary and alternate contacts from ALSes are important information for RALOS and ICANN, and someone has to do it and make sure the list is kept up to date.. probably at RALO level
