Session Title: The role of youth in the DNS
Overview:
According to the International Telecommunication Union, 45% of Internet users worldwide are under 25 years old (2011). Therefore, we should acknowledge that young people - the digital natives – represent a significant proportion of end-users and as such they must have the opportunity to share their views and opinions on aspects relevant to the DNS such as data protection and privacy issues raised by Whois, security and stability, the impact of the new gTLDs on the everyday life of the end users, etc. The role of youth in the Internet ecosystem is being discussed in numerous forums such as some national IGFs and the international IGF, and this is an opportunity to also place these issues in the context of the DNS management on the agenda of ICANN.
