AFRALO SHOWCASE: INTERNET DEVELOPMENT AND AFRICAN PARTICIPATION

Introduction

During the ICANN international public meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya 7-12 March 2010, AFRALO representatives took the initiative to organize, for the first time in an ICANN meeting, a show case event.  It was such a success that the idea was adopted by all the RALOs which representatives, since then, organize a show case whenever the public meeting takes place in their respective region

The 2nd AFRALO show case event will take place at the Dakar meeting to assess the African identity and participation in the development of Internet for a human and prosperous world.  The theme of this show case will be:  “Internet development and African participation”

Objective of the Working Group:

This show case will be an opportunity to show the African

  • Leaders participating  in internet development
  • Achievements related to internet development: productions, successful activities, best practices using internet in all development sectors, etc.
  • Arts and culture : sculptures, paintings, music, dance, movies, sketches

Requirements: 

  1. Organization:
    1. A Master of Ceremony will be needed to manage the program (a media person) with AFRALO representatives and lead the event
  2. Logistics: 
    1. A large open space that can allow fluid circulation of the attendees, space for music and dance.  It should be located next to the public forum meeting room, as the event will be launched right after the opening ceremony.
    2. At least 3 large video screens for the projection of pictures, success stories, etc.
    3. Exhibition boards for AFRALO ALS to present their structures  and a table for the documentation
    4. Exhibition space for artists willing to show their work
  3. Keynote Speakers to be invited: besides ICANN CEO and Board & Constituency chairs :
    1. A Senegalese leader from the Government (the Minister of ICT) to welcome/open the AFRALO show case
    2. African leaders in Internet development
  4. Arts and culture:
    1. Famous African musicians to be invited for live animation and presentation of their websites (traditional & modern)
    2. Famous artists to present their work in the net and in real (Viye Diba, etc.)
    3. Comedians to perform on issues related to internet
    4. AFRALO ALS to bring genuine artistic items from their respective countries for exhibition
    5. AFRALO ALS to wear genuine clothes from their respective countries
