Background on Initial Report of New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG

The New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP WG is seeking to determine what changes, if any, need to be made to the existing Introduction of New Generic Top-Level Domains policy recommendations from 8 August 2007 for subsequent New gTLD Program rounds. This Initial Report documents the deliberations of the WG from the full WG and Work Tracks 1-4 on charter issues, preliminary recommendations, potential options for recommendations and specific questions for which the WG is seeking input on. Specifically, each Work Track focuses on a specific set of topics:

  1. Work Track 1: Overall process, support and outreach
  2. Work Track 2: Legal and regulatory issues
  3. Work Track 3: String contention, objections and disputes
  4. Work Track 4: Internationalized Domain Names and technical and operational issues

Work Track 5, focused on geographic names at the top-level, will produce a separate Initial Report. The public comments received will be integrated into the recommendations for inclusion in the Final Report by the WG. Deadline for public comments is on 5 September 2018, 23:59 (UTC).

APAC Space Web Conference - Discussion on New gTLD Subsequent Procedures Policy Development Process (PDP)
Date/Time: 16 June 2016, 03:00-04:00 UTC

Please note that the ICANN56 Helsinki meeting (27-30 June 2016) format is focused on SO/AC/SG/C (Supporting Organizations/Advisory Committees/Stakeholder Groups/Constituencies), and there will not be a face-to-face APAC Space meeting in Helsinki.

New gTLD Subsequent Procedures PDP

On 17 December 2015, the GNSO (Generic Names Supporting Organization) initiated a PDP to consider and analyze issues discussed in the Final Issue Report on New gTLD Subsequent Procedures to determine whether changes or adjustments to the existing policy recommendations in the Final Report on the Introduction of New Generic Top-Level Domains are needed. As the Working Group for this PDP has begun discussions, it is beneficial for the APAC Community to understand the relevant discussion topics and thus be better poised for participation in the near future.
