The At ICANN61 the ICANN Board and the RSSAC engaged in a discussion about threats to the Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC) held its eighth workshop from October 1 to 3, 2019, hosted by Verisign, Inc. and supported by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Twelve root server operator (RSO) organizations, four liaisons to the RSSAC, four RSSAC Caucus members, and one ICANN research fellow attended the workshop. The RSSAC workshop also featured remote participation to facilitate broader RSSAC Caucus attendance.The primary purpose of this workshop was to advance the work of the Root Server System (RSS) Metrics Work Party. This document contains a high-level summary of these activitiesRSS) and how the ICANN Board could respond if threats to the RSS materialized. The RSSAC took this input back to the Root Server Operators (RSOs) for feedback. Since that time, the RSOs have published a document that outlines security risks and mitigations to the RSS and general methods used for mitigation.

The RSSAC would like to formally endorse the work of the RSOs on Threat Mitigation for the Root Server System. Furthermore, the RSSAC regards the ICANN Board's request for input fulfilled.
