Content Guidelines (click here)

Schools of Internet Governance (SIGs) have been proposed as an effective means of community capacity building and have been successfully organized in different parts of Asia Pacific. The recent At-Large Review has also recommended SIGs in order to train and enhance the Internet Governance community in different regions.

ICANN is supporting the first edition of the Armenia SIG under the At-Large FY18 Special Request Budget. As the first edition of its kind, and also as an At-Large/APRALO supported programme, it is considered important to have a representative of APRALO during the event.

ArmSIG program will cover different aspects of Internet Governance including the IG infrastructure, Multistakeholder model, ICANN and other I* organizations, their roles and activities, the IG Ecosystem, and topical issues such as Human Rights, Cybersecurity issues, Child Safety and Internet Shutdowns.

The following are the specific outcomes expected to be achieved:

  1. Represent APRALO, At-Large and ICANN in ArmSIG 2017 so as to present Internet Governance perspectives from the side of ICANN to the participants
  2. Provide inputs to the organizers of ArmSIG on the shared experience of other SIGs in the Asia-Pacific Region, as the Traveller is one the organizers of the Asia-Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG) as well as the India School of Internet Governance (inSIG) during 2016 and 2017.
  3. Strengthen the existing APRALO member ALSes in the country and attract more individuals who can join APRALO as Individual Members where possible
  4. Participate as a resource person in ArmSIG, as the traveller has been a resource person in APSIG, inSIG, APIGA and AfSIG in the past.
  5. Examine how the learning material and pedagogy from ArmSIG can be utilized in other capacity building programmes amongst APRALO members, especially considering that Armenia straddles Europe and Asia, and has distinctive characteristics and needs
