Trip Assessment Form

1) Describe the Trip in sufficient detail
that an interested reader could understand if/how
the original purpose(s) and outcome(s) were
realized (please be as expansive as possible):

I left to Barcelona on the 19th of October and had dinner with our membership coordinator, Juan Manuel Rojas. We had some discussions on the upcoming meeting and its issues.

On the 20th, I first attended the NPOC policy committee meeting, where PC Chair David Cake introduced our PC's strategy and welcomed our new members, after which we had an charter review meeting (not in schedule). I also attended the Fellowship Networking Event in the evening. Between the gaps of the meetings we were working with Joan and Juan and others.

On the 21st, I attended the scheduled NPOC ExCom meeting and we discussed:

  • NPOC's new charter and the next steps in validating it
  • The new website of NPOC
  • Communications to members through our website and social media
  • Our regional members and activating them
  • The new CRM registry and the NCSG's membership database
  • Managing EC tasks in Trello
  • Finalising payment to Sam

After that, I attended different sessions and the started on the workload we just agreed to share at our ExCom meeting.

On the 22nd, I went to the welcoming ceremony and the NCSG policy committee meeting after that. I also attended the ICANN's 5-year planning session of the NCSG.

On the 23rd, we had a meeting with the ICANN board and had to cut it short, because it actually conflicted with NPOC's constituency day. This is pretty bad planning actually. (sad)

After ours, I joined the NCUC's constituency day and went to the ODI session with Michael Karanicolas.

On 24th, I went to the cross-community session on the GDPR and after that me and Joan went to talk with Herb, ICANN's ombudsman, to find out more about the obvious fairness issue that is the seat we lack at the NomCom. At night I went to the Gala and had actually brought my tuxedo - I wanted to celebrate ICANN's 20 years in existence.

On the last day, I went to the public board meeting, SO/AC scheduling session and Public Forum after that. I enjoyed the ICANN 20 event and had a few drinks at the anniversary cocktail.

I think NPOC did pretty well - we got a lot of work done during and between meetings in Barcelona and are now busy getting our numerous new members of the policy committee to finally create some policy at NPOC!

2) Describe the details of your attendance
and
activities at the meeting (including sessions
attended, written or oral contributions made to
specific sessions, etc.):

I laid out the details of the sessions I attended in the above elaboration.

3) Explain the specific plans for follow-up activities
to enhance and continue the objectives of the trip for
the community structure through which you were
approved for the trip:

We:

  • Reorganised Trello to have six columns - for each of our EC member.
  • Got our charter ready
  • Have several new members for our policy committee
  • Received funds from Rudi to pay off NPOC's debt to Sam and are in the process of opening a new bank account for NPOC in Finland
  • Have effectively two co-chairs heading our policy committee
  • Had a fruitful discussion with PIR
  • Are working on securing NPOC's seat in the NomCom and cooperating with the ombudsman
4) Please fill out the date when you have completed this form:

The official meetings are all captured, however, given all the extra administrative and organizational planning, the NPOC EC met at breakfasts and lunches to identify the needed work to assist in forwarding the policy work.
The ICANN Organization / Structure's leadership has authorized the submission of this Trip Assessment.
