Dr. TAREK KAMEL AWARD FOR CAPACITY BUILDING

ICANN's multistakeholder, bottom-up approach to policy development and strategic planning remains rooted in the continued belief that global representation, transparency, and accountability are critical to fulfilling the shared goal of a single, globally interoperable internet supported by stable, secure, and resilient unique identifier systems. A significant strategic objective of ICANN is to provide an open and collaborative environment where diverse stakeholders come together in the global public interest to improve the effectiveness and inclusiveness of ICANN's multistakeholder policy development processes. To achieve this objective ICANN seeks to (1) support and grow active, informed, and effective stakeholder participation, and (2) sustain and improve openness, inclusivity, accountability, and transparency.

Dr. Tarek Kamel Award for Capacity Building was established in honor of the late Dr. Tarek Kamel, an internet pioneer known for his contributions to global internet governance. At the time of his passing, Tarek Kamel was ICANN's Senior Advisor to the President and Senior Vice President for Government and Intergovernmental Organization Engagement. In this role, Tarek spearheaded efforts to build stronger relationships between ICANN org and governments, ministries, and IGOs on Internet governance issues. Tarek was passionate about the multistakeholder approach to building one strong, stable, and interoperable Internet for all people across the globe.
