APC is one of the best established civil society organization in the Southern African region.

The event has the potential of having 200 attendees. NCUC has many local contacts and members in Africa which we are relying on to shape the agenda, discussions and engage more organizations and individuals in the region. NCUC Academic members have strong contacts to leading academics in Africa who have expressed strong interest in this meeting. We will also invite the African members of GIGANET (an academic Internet Gov Network).

The local members are making arrangements for an appropriate venue, they are in discussions with   http://www.jcse.org.za/ a university and a local innovation hub.

NCUC will sponsor the event with its CROPP event funding and  will source funding for other expenses. We also intend to provide  further sponsorship from NCUC funds. We have begun to talking to other potential sponsors.

In coordination with our  NCUC members in Africa, we held our first planning meeting and a lot of interest was expressed by members about this event.

11) Proposed Goals and Outcomes for this event:

Content Guidelines (click here)

This is an outreach event which focuses on what NCUC activities within ICANN. But it also illustrates to the attendees how NCUC functions and works with stakeholder groups, constituencies and organizations within ICANN and what rights it advances within the domain name policy making.

It is a good chance for the attendees before the policy forum to understand the multistakeholder nature of ICANN and its governance structure.

The intended outcome of this outreach is two-folded: It w i ll reach out to a broad set of non commercial actors in Africa and motivates them to join NCUC, and the other intention is to show how policy practice works at ICANN. This can motivate the attendees to join NCUC   and it also  enable new  members to become active more quickly and easily in ICANN internet policy development processes and attend the policy forum with a clearer mindset.   At NCUC we have been succesful in building our membership,  new members be able to contribute to policy development and constituency and stakeholder leadership and we want to help the new members to  effectively  contribute to policy development and constituency and stakeholder leadership.

The speakers range from local experts from civil society and academia to NCUC experts. We will also invite experts and members of other stakeholder groups and constituencies to talk about the multistakeholder policymaking  at ICANN.

12) Additional Information (optional):

This event will be about development issues, access to domain names, the rights of noncommercial users and registrants of domain names, freedom of expression on the Internet and domain name policies.
