Kimberly Carlson:Hello all, welcome to today's cc PDP on retirement WG call on 11 October at 11:00 UTC
Bernard Turcotte:hello all
Peter Koch (DE):Hi
el:hang on
Stephen Deerhake:Good morning Bernard.
Bernard Turcotte:good day sir
Kim Davies:Morning
Svitlana Tkachenko:Hello!
Bernard Turcotte:@Eberhard - I can send you a landscape format if you want
Patricio Poblete:Welcome Bernie!
Bernard Turcotte:@Eberhard - sent
Bernard Turcotte:too kind - thanks
Liz Williams:@ Bernie...you can buy everyone beers and we'll be square!
Bernard Turcotte:ok
Nick Wenban-Smith, Nominet:hi sorry for joining late, just got in from Brussels
Kimberly Carlson:Hi Nick - Stephen just finished item 2.1 - introduction of Bernie as additional staff support
Nigel Roberts:still at Brussels
Bart Boswinkel:Docuemnt is scrollable
Nigel Roberts:I’m in listen only as adobe crashes when i connect microphone
Kimberly Carlson:@Nigel, let me know if you would like me to dial out to you
Nigel Roberts:thanks but it will ok
Nigel Roberts:I will need to leave on half hour
Nigel Roberts:X should be max 5 years before ISO trans res expires
Vadim Mikhaylov:Hello everyone, sorry I’m late.
Peter Koch (DE):Kim, pls clarify: can or cannot assume the reservation period adhered to
Nigel Roberts:can some please read out my comments in the chat
Kim Davies:can NOT assume, reserves the right to re-use a code sooner
Nigel Roberts:adobe crashes
Peter Koch (DE):tnx Kim, very important!
Bernard Turcotte:could encourage people to generate domains just to increase the time
Nigel Roberts:not sure size is relevant
el:Adobe is cutting out all the time
el:I am wondering if there is a place for some form of a formula to make this predicable?
Nigel Roberts:its more about the interests of each registrant
el:I am not saying size or whatnot, this is just a rough idea
Allan MacGillivray:Bringing Nigel's suggestion of 5 years together with Kim's notion of 'single digits' suggest a range of 5 to 9 years, which is a range I can argree with.
Patricio Poblete:Nigel is not saying 5 years, I understand he says ISO trans res time minus 5 years
Kim Davies:For context, in the past we've recommended based on discussions 3-5 years, but each situation has beenm different
el:Figures can be verified
Liz Williams:Do we have to articulate why we would choose a particular number? I think we should from technical/legal/policy/operational requirements.
Kim Davies:A possibly comparitive situation is when numbering schemes have changed for telephone numbers, they've typically been more aggressive (on the order of months or a year or two, depending on country)
Peter Koch (DE):Is anybody aware of studies regarding the economics of TLD sunset (as opposed to the quite well understood sunrise)?
Nigel Roberts:I think I want to rename this software
Nigel Roberts:Adobe Disconnect
Nick Wenban-Smith, Nominet:I completely agree that the policy should state no new registrations during the sunset/ transistion
el:Peter, this is an extremely interesting question
Nigel Roberts:study is a good suggestion
Nick Wenban-Smith, Nominet:in terms of X, what about registrations of up to 10 years?
Liz Williams:@ Peter...I wonder if there would be any useful data that could come out of the impact of the potentially Brexit imposed "de-registration" of names owned by UK residents?
Peter Koch (DE):@Kim: expextations to 'persistence' might be different for phone numbers
el:An algorithm would calculate X too.
el:I was thinking about making a Soft Retirement more predictable.
Allan MacGillivray:On Eberhard's suggestion of a "formula", it should be quite simple, such as a small registry would have to repspect the lower end of a rnge of years, while a large registry would have the benefit of the upper end of a rnge.
el:If they can't agree, I still propose a Hard Retirement
Allan MacGillivray:Rnage=rnge
Allan MacGillivray:Third time lucky: range=rnge
Nigel Roberts:looks like I need to leave now
Nigel Roberts:apologies
el:thinking about this would not interrupt our workplan
el:Where can I file a formal complaint about Adobe?
Nick Wenban-Smith, Nominet:I can hear you perfectly Stephen!
el:It's particularly interfering with participation from developing countries poorer connectivity
Kimberly Carlson:we just need to remember to mute mics/phones when not speaking
Allan MacGillivray:My audio is excellent
el:it's cutting out all the time
el:We could define milestores
el:Stop taking new registrations
el:stop renewing
el:and so on
Liz Williams:no thank you...
Bart Boswinkel:Staff will prepare papers to intitiate the discussion
Kimberly Carlson:Of course there will be remote participation in Barcelona
Nick Wenban-Smith, Nominet:it was a good note from Bart, let's let people absorb that before the next meeting
Bart Boswinkel:Bye all
Peter Koch (DE):thanks, bye, safe travels!
Kimberly Carlson:thank you all, bye
Patricio Poblete:Bye!
Bernard Turcotte:bye all and safe travels
