Review of current status of ALS applications:

The Chair informed the participants of an application from Internauta Chile which is currently being processed. He encouraged the region to send comments on the applicant.

S Salinas noted that he knew the applicant and worked with them on various occasions where had very good experiences with them.

C Samuels gave a short summary of the Registrar Accreditation Agreements. He encouraged the LACRALO to review the document and pay special attention to the treatments of registrants.

Modification to the Operating Principles of the LACRALO

There was some discussion on the proposed modification to the operating principles. It was suggested that the term of the regional chair should be for two instead of one year.

No decision was taken on this issue. There will be further discussion on the issue.

Travel Policy

C Samuels gave a short review of the discussion on new travel procedures from the 20th of August.

The Staff noted that a Spanish translation of the travel procedures has been ordered.

S Salinas noted that what he calls the participation policy has not properly implemented. He said that there was no reason to subsidize the business sector as it has enough means to participate. In order to have broad participation from all sectors, the civil sector needs a special approach; otherwise there is an equity problem in the policy process.

R Medina noted that ways should be explored to increase the participation and mentioned that having more regional conference calls could be an option.

Comments were expressed that more needed to be done by ICANN to maintain active international civil society participation.

A decision was made to convene on August 22nd at 1600 UTC to discuss a regional statement on this issue. (see 22 august 2008 )
