In Socialtext, categories help you identify information so it can be found later on. Every page can have any number of categories. Pages can have many categories, and categories can overlap. Categories appear underneath the page name.

> NOTE All workspace weblog names are also category names. Assigning a weblog as a category publishes the page to that weblog.

> View all categories. Select "Categories" from the top menu. You will see an alphabetical list of all of the defined categories. Clicking on any category will show a list of pages in that category.

> Edit categories. When you are browsing a page, you can edit the categories by clicking on the (add) link in the Categories list.

>> Assign a category. Select a category from the "Add Existing Category" menu and then save the page. A page may be placed in one or many categories at the same time.

>> Create a category. Whenever you are editing a page, you can enter any new category name in the "Create New Category" box above the page content, and then click "Add".

>> NOTE All workspace weblog names are also category names. Assigning a weblog as a category (e.g. assigning the category My Weblog) publishes the page to that weblog.
