Joe Sims graduated from Arizona State University (B.S. 1967, JD 1970), spend eight years at the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division (trial attorney (1970-72), Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General (1972-74), and Deputy Assistant Attorney General (1974-78), and 38 years as an antitrust partner at Jones Day (1978-2017).  In addition to his antitrust work for a variety of clients over the years, he was the primary outside lawyer for Jon Postel in the creation of ICANN and for the first five years of its existence (1998-2003), and he continued to advise ICANN until his retirement.
