10) Proposed Goals and Outcomes:

CaribNOG Regional Meetings are held twice a year, generally in April and October, at a conference centre or hotel. Participation is open to network operators, IT practitioners, students, regulators, entrepreneurs, government representatives and other individuals or institutions interested in the advancement of the Internet. CaribNOG is a not-for-profit, independent, technical community that provides an important regional forum for building technical capacity, sharing industry experiences and promoting relevant solutions for advancing network engineering in the Caribbean. It has built a reputation as an influential forum where computer network technicians and technology professionals share knowledge and experiences and participate in expert-led, high-tech training and hands-on technical workshops. The Goals are: 1) To build general awareness of ICANN beyond anything presented by other official ICANN representation at the meeting, such as the Regional Stakeholder Engagement (RSE) Manager. 2) To pass out takeaway material that help them to understand topics and groups highlighted better. The takeaways should include material to them learning or refreshing themselves on ICANN topics and activities. It should probably highlight useful video clips on person's ICANN journey. In fact, it may be useful to have such on a playback loop in some mingling area outside to main meeting room or on playback during the break-time, filler periods of the CaribNOG meeting (so it reaches the online audience as well as room lurkers). 3) To present avenues and use cases for remote engagement such as: participation on the mailing lists, the remote meeting tools and having remote group participation such as via remote hubs. 4) To encourage the building of Internet Governance (IG) clusters of interests via forming or joining At-Large Structures (ALSes) and other similar groups and to encourage activity and active discussion on topics of local interest. 5) To illustrate to participants across various areas of interests to whom I may be able to relate, such as ccTLD operators, network operators, IT practitioners, students, and entrepreneurs why and how ICANN is relevant to them. 6) To point attendees to local ALS and for the web audience regional ALSess and point persons to guide further engagement. Specific activities: 1) Introduction and promotion of At-Large and LACRALO via distributions of hand-outs and a lightning presentation on At-Large. 2) Promotion of ICANN remote hub participation via a lightning presentation on remote hubs drawing from my experience of having produced 4, about to be 5 remote hubs for various Internet Governance (IG) activities within my country. 3) Before the meeting, working with regional stakeholders to reach out and encourage past IG participants on the Outreach & Engagement Sub-Committee list to attend/participate in ARIN 37 and CaribNOG 11. (I already started this) 4) Trying to have direct meetings with any past IG participants in attendance to discuss strategies for resuming, maintaining and building on their engagement and extending the promotion to their networks of peers. 5) Promoting, if possible via Lightning Talk/Presentation the Fellowship and NextGen participation opportunities in ICANN and suggesting strategies to build a stronger application and to be more prepared for event. [The angle from which I approach the topic will be determined by what the Regional Stakeholder Manager is likely to be presenting]. 6) Interaction with the CaribNOG team and encouraging them to promote certain LACRALO, At-Large, ICANN webinars and other activities within their mailing lists. (As a member of the mailing list I have already started this). 7) Working the room and trying to suggest any (working)groups or activities with ICANN that I think individual persons or groups might find interesting. 8) Offer my contact information for further follow-up to those interested and perhaps create an initial mailing list of interested persons so I that can follow-up for 6-months to 1-year in promoting upcoming IG news and events to them, just as I do with my local group which became the Internet Society Barbados Chapter (ISOC BB). 9) Distribution of information on upcoming IG events in the region and outside that could allow in person or remote participation. Outcomes: 1) Increased awareness of the local ALS(es) and how to join. 2) Growing familiarity of attendees with ICANN outreach material. 3) Encouragement further engagement via access to a list of upcoming IG events available for in person or remote participation. 4) Encouragement for learning and capacity building via archived webinar links, ICANN Learn links and other IG tutorial material. 5) The expectation that remote engagement will seem easier when I highlight the work-in-progress Barbados use case and strategies.
11) Additional Information (optional):

It would be great if some of the local ALSes could assist in receiving and having ready any shipment or printing of hand-out material on ICANN for use at the meeting.

Believe it is best to start the outreach from the opening afternoon of CaribNOG which happens to be in the afternoon of April 20th, 2016. This is a 2.5 days meeting. Otherwise daily times are:

Start: 9:00 AM
End: 4:00 PM

ARRANGEMENTS:

Would like a table for the ICANN material next to the CaribNOG 11 registration desk.

ACCOMMODATION

Overseas participants are invited to stay at the Half Moon Resort, Rose Hall a 5 star property ideally located within Montego Bay.

Standard rooms are $229 USD /night.
