On behalf of Seun Ojedeji, AFRALO Chair, we would like to invite AFRALO members to vote on a section of the AFRALO Operating Principles (specifically Individual Membership).
Background
Prior to the AFRALO General Assembly (GA) in 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa, the community discussed the issue of Individual Membership and subsequently voted to update the Operating Principles to allow Individual Membership. The rules required that the individual membership section of the operating principles be reviewed after 2 years. In 2020, the AFRALO Leadership launched the process to review the individual membership section of the rules as per the operating principles by re-activating the Operating Principles Working Group (WG). Two Co-Chairs, namely Isaac Maposa and Abdeljalil Bachar Bong, were voted by members of the working group to lead the AFRALO Operating Principles Working Group (WG). The WG met in 17 conference calls between 19 February 2020 and 05 August 2021 to discuss the assignment, with regular feedback being provided during the AFRALO Monthly calls and also public consultation with the AFRALO community was done.
The following highlights are noted:
- Any Internet end user within the AFRALO region may become an Unaffiliated AFRALO Individual Member, but must not be a Representative or a Leader of an ALS in any RALO.
- Individual Members will now have the right to vote when required, and the total Individual Members’ vote shall be equivalent to a single ALS vote.
- The application form has been updated and will be completed by downloading a PDF document or completing an online form.
- Some terminology changes were made to keep the document section better aligned.

Members shall soon receive a voting link to cast their vote and the voting period shall be 5 days. The question (motion) will be as stated below:

Kindly note that according to the current rules, two-thirds of the whole membership must consent for the motion to carry.
