Yvette Guigneaux:  Welcome all to the Staff Accountability Subgroup Meeting #15  |  21 April 2017 - 05:  00 UTC!

Yvette Guigneaux:  If you are not speaking, please mute your phone by pressing *6 (star 6).  To unmute press *6

Tina-captioner:  Hello Yvette.  I am ready to go.   Thanks

Yvette Guigneaux:  hi there Tina, good evening

Yvette Guigneaux:  glad to hear all is ready for captioning  =)

Yvette Guigneaux:  Tina - one question - on your caption pod - that sync button - should it be grey or white?

  Tina-captioner:  it's grey here

Tina-captioner:  I am click on it

Tina-captioner:  I meant I can click on it.  It's not greyed out

Yvette Guigneaux:  ok - just didn't know if i needed to do anything on my end

Tina-captioner:  not that I know of.  I've never clicked on it nor used it

  Yvette Guigneaux:  ok

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  Hi Alan ...  Seems like HOURS  since we spoke on a conf call ;-)

Jordan Carter:  let me guess, it was a couple of seconds?

Alan Greenberg:  Probably because it was hours. But not a lot more...

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  You think!

Patrick Dodson:  Hi all - happy to announce that we have the captioning service up and running now, as you can see in the lower window on the adobe connect room.

  Jordan Carter:  good stuff Patrick!

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  Yes  EXCELENT!!!

Patrick Dodson:  tell me about it jordan, i was the one taking notes previously. ;o)

Yvette Guigneaux:  Jordan - you have scroll control if you need it on the doc

Yvette Guigneaux:  and hope you feel better

Jordan Carter:  still a bit under the weather I am afraid - but battling on

Jordan Carter:  i'm happy with that

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  In Preparation

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  I suspect Alan is correct but we need to 'make the attempt

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  I suspect Alan is correct but we need to 'make the attempt'

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  Agree Jordan the "give us the indesputable facts line' is a diversion tfrom our main work  to say the least, but we DO need to capture more details  in the examples

Jordan Carter:  and in that case (staff travel), it is about the role. And then working out whether that's a staff accountability issue or an organisational functional success issue

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  exactly as the 'same'issues seem to have been around through several staff appointments  to the role

Jordan Carter:  is "functional fulfilment" part of our role? I don't think it is. Whether ICANN does its job effectively or not isn't a staff accountability problem IMO

  Alan Greenberg:  Correct.

Jordan Carter:  If it's not about the person (evidenced by multiple people having same challenge) it's about resource allocation and priority

Jordan Carter:  if there's a general ""service quality"" problem in some functions, that could be raised as an issue, but what's the resolution?

Jordan Carter:  is it a staff accountability issue, in other words

Alan Greenberg:  That will cover SOME of the issues, but there are others that you cannot mention without it becoming personal.

Jordan Carter:  and that safe space - safe forum is one of the systemic gaps

Jordan Carter:  and has been raised as one of the issues

  Jordan Carter:  so that's good

Jordan Carter:  I'd characterise those issues as "possible gaps in the HR system"

Patrick Dodson:  agree Alan, but I think we can then explore ideas for how specific individual instances can be addressed without overly excelating as a formal complaint to the complaints office or ombuds for example

Jordan Carter:  the issue is people who aren't trouble makers, but people who are troubled

Jordan Carter:  which ties us back to culture

Jordan Carter:  if there's a cultural premium on loyalty, that would help explain that approach

George Sadowsky:  Donald Trump values loyalty a lot also.  We are in trouble

Jordan Carter:  living with our ghosts

Alan Greenberg:  Make ICANN Great Again!        Love it!

  Jordan Carter:  ;)

  Jordan Carter:  MIGA

avri doria:  ( I have that hat )

Jordan Carter:  behaviours that might indicate that culture stuff

Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  Good point re the opportunity to ignore our outcome Jordn

  Jordan Carter:  ""that culture stuff""

  Jordan Carter:  exactly

Jordan Carter:  and trying to develop more clarity about a common baseline culture, within that diverse and complex milieu, would be the taks

Jordan Carter:  is Organisational Performance the same as Staff Accountability?

Jordan Carter:  I think we should flag it, just do it very carefully

  Cheryl Langdon-Orr (CLO):  agreed Jordan

Jordan Carter:  Questions - re-write and edit based on this discussion

Patrick Dodson:  no comments from me on the last two questions.

Alan Greenberg:  Time of day also affects it...

Jordan Carter:  (and we had more participants when we were doing that, Avri...) :  -)

  Jordan Carter:  great

Jordan Carter:  I have suggested a community wide session about how we set priorities across ICANN for the Joburg meeting

Jordan Carter:  it's an important conversation for us to have :  -)

  Patrick Dodson:  thank you everyone!
